One of the other posts made me think of this. What things have we made our spouses help us do? I have asked mine nicely to man a jack while putting in a trans, and the old "this will only take a minute" engine install. I even make her drive the truck and trailer back to the cottage after we drop the boat in spring. And her family thought she would marry a yuppie.

I brought home a parts car a few weeks ago, actually its the first Buick in my new garage which is not finished yet, but i couldnt have 2 GS's sitting in my driveway.
so I told her just get in and I will push it off the trailer!
OK, car has been sitting , on a farm, for who knows how many years!! eewwwwwww,
it smells, theres spiders, yuk! well ok just get in , it will only take a minute.
OK, well dont just get in, the door wont open on the trailer! OK well just climb in the window!! WAIT ! are the neighbors watching!
OK she climbs in, I tell her, just push on the brake when its starts to come of the ramps and just guide it right in!
WAIT, dont push that hard, it wont move!!
OK, no problems got the car in the garage, no spider bites , no mouse poop !
    good job hun!
I love this girl, yesterday was our anniversary
    27 yrs !!! yeeee haaaaaa

Larry, I love it! Sounds like we have girls that are very similiar. Dana, Beth is with the exception of my wife, the coolest car chick I have met. Tina actually drives my 66 GTO that I have had since high school. She loves it to death. She calls it "her car" but I haven't figured that one out yet. I mean its my last premarital asset. :Brow: I think in a divorce, I get the car and my 14 year old dog (my other pre marital asset). She tolerates the wagon, but I wouldn't call it love. Nothing like beating a new mustang out of the toll booth with 4 guys in the car, and a cooler in the back> :3gears: Most girls wouldn't understand.

There is no way I would ask my husband to do anything even if I had one.

Had a '70 GS 350, pulled the engine, and was going to swap in a 455 (had the engine already). At the time, I didn't have a Garage, so all my work was done on "nice" days, outside (at the Chance that it wouldn't rain).

I came home one day, after work, to find my '70 GS "GONE"! I had 3 at the time, but I did notice the ONE missing!:eek2:

Frantically, I drove around the neighborhood, looking for my car, to FIND it right next door, in my Neighbor's garage, with my WIFE sitting in the Engine Compartment, Changing the Frame Mounts for me!

I never asked, I just explained "how much I have to do" to swap the engines, so She and the Neighbor helped me install that 455 (which I still have, after all these years. Oh, yeah, and my Wife, too! )! :TU:

When I started building the X-Camino the frame was smashed so I had to find another one. I ended up using a 70 skylark 4-door frame and welding the El-Camino sections onto it. First I had my wife Beth help me flip it over, then as more pieces got attached I had my next-door neighor Dave and his wife Sarah also helping.

While I was rebuilding the suspension and cleaning the frame on the 68 LeSabre Shirl brought me dinner out to the garage almost every night during the winter in 2002 .

I don't make my wife do anything, I ask. She has helped me with:

Driving 300 miles one way to look at possible purchases.

Driving 200 miles to stripe down a 71 Skylark with a tree growing through it. Helped me take off grille, bumper, fenders, trim, interior, hood, rad support, and then load onto pickup and then unload once home. She can handle a wrench better than some of my friends.

Has helped me install engine into stage 1.

Helped me unload ragtop frame off trailer into garage. Helped me flip it over when working on it.

Picked up parts at GM in my hometown (freind gives me deals) when I was working or out of town.

Helped me install scrap rear diff in 72 GS so we could tow the car.

Helped me move body panels (including a GS hood!) and other parts down into our huge crawlspace.

Brought back my rebuilt Turbo 400 for the ragtop in THE TRUNK OF HER NEW ALERO from my hometown (again, friends give me deals there, here still kinda unknown)!!!

Lets me wash parts and stuff in the laundry room sink.

I have more, but I think that sums it up. I have never heard a complaint or bad comment about the cars. She LOVES to go for cruises in them....

    I consider myself extremely lucky...

my wife has only helped me bleed the brakes , only after i asked her . otherwise , she has nothing to do with the car . she will comment on how good it looks . seldom does she ride in it .

You should be happy she does even that. Most of our friends wifes give evil looks out the window or nasty comments. The fact that she is willing to just hang out while you work is still cool. You could start out slow and make her "Tool Girl" give her some time and she'll be elbow deep in grease!!

The list of things Rod has asked me to do is way to long. I've busted knuckles while screwing rims to the tires, pack his chute to draining catch cans, install seat belts, loaded and trailed the car to met him to go to the track, make parts runs, help install trans to the motor to pulling off heads, the list just goes on. Oh, I even kill spiders for him  I love it though so it doesn't bother me.

My wife is wonderful. Not only does she search for parts and information for me on our 4 classic cars, but she will drive up to 3+ hours one way to go pick up the parts for me while I am working. She helps me with anything I need while working on the cars and has even signed me up and paid for a class in auto body repair that I have been wanting to take for a while now. She helps work on the cars, clean the cars, detail the cars and anything else I need. After my back surgery, she even went out and bought me a new 7hp air compresser, wire welder, and quite a few other tools and equipment to make things alot easier to work on the cars for me. It's been 17 years so far, I think I'll keep her!!!! :TU:

...I lucked out and got a great girl, but there was some evil planning:

Step 1: Get her addicted to driving the car.

Step 2: "...You can have a set of keys after you've helped with at least 1 engine swap..."

Step 3: Argue over who gets to drive the Buick.

    Step 4: Second Buick.

I asked my wife to push the brake pedal once so I could check the taillights.

She decided instead to not hack me to pieces with a hatchet while I slept that night.

So I've got that going for me.

I asked my wife (ex) to help me bleed brakes.....she had done it before so she was confident....so much so that she started pumping as soon as she got in the car....only problem was that I was just about to put the drums on.....what a mess.....fluid everywhere and one broken spring.

I guess she just wanted to get it over with....like sex.
