I was just worndering why you did not stop to check it out when it started to smoke really bad instead of keep on driving it till it stoped.More than likely it could have been an easy fix if you would have stoped at first but in keeping on going instead of stopping you may have made it worst off for yourself.Next time you have trouble with your car pull over the money you save will be your own.DMinFla

not many safe places to stop. rather spend a lil more of fixing it then try to replace the car. I dont have ne insurace to cover theft.

Ouch man! I hope this all works out for you.
I had the very same thing happen to an old Mercedes I owned a few years ago. The car would be a mother *&#$ to start and when it did I'd get that infamous "BOOM". Everytime this would happen I'd take a look under the hood to find a small amount of black smoke coming out of the carb. I'd also find a healthy amount of oil inside of the carb by running my fingure iside of it. Of course I had a nice mushroom cloud of grey smoke come out of the exhaust. The car always ran like crap until it warmed up; then it continued to run like crap. I did a compression check and found that I had one cylinder shot. I assumed it to be a piston ring. The car was a beater and would have been expendive to fis so I just drove it to the grave.
I hope this isn't where you find yourself.
Get all the information possible! Look for any clues about why this may be happening ie. oil pressure, compression check. . .
There is a lot of knowledge on this board and I'm sure someone on here will be able to get you headed in the right direction. I wouldn't be surprissed if one of these guys lives nearbye and would be willing to give you a hand with it. For a case of :beer of course.

Sure sounds like your motor is totally F.U.B.A.R.'d to me!:puzzled:

I think you had an overheating problem to start with and by not shutting her down and fixing the problem you have just screwed your motor up good. I'd start with removing and checking your heads and changing the oil. When you get it running again, stay near home so that you can fix the overheating problem first.

Your radiator may not be cooling the engine even though it does not leak. There are many things that could also be causing it to overheat, and if you don't fix them you will only damage your motor all over again. The worst thing you can do to any engine is drive it while it is badly overheated. Knocking and no power are the death rattle of an overheated engine. :spank:

Thanks for all your help guys. This is what im looking at.

I can repair this engine. or I can repair the other matching number engine. I no it just has a compression problem because it wont start and I no its the the wire or plugs becuase they are the same ones in this engine.

and compression is most likely piston rings right??

I don't know if you read my reply in the other post, but I'll bet you got that motor so hot you warped and burned your exhaust valves.

I purchased a 350 skylark with that problem once on 2 cylinders, the thermostat was installed backwards and the guy just kept driving it. After I fixed it, we drove it for 3 years and later sold the car.
