    BIG PROBLEM OR SMALL ONE.

Ok people Im having a big problem,I think.

    This is what happened.

I got a engine swaped in my car and picked it up yesterday.
When I picked it up I noticed it was very under powered and had a slight knock. It was also stalling out alot when I stoped. So first thin I did was take it to a friends house who's dad knows about cars. He adjusted the carb and it seemed to work better. I also must add the the carb was smoking. So today the car was working better. UNTIL i was on the freeway doing about 65-70 keeping with the flow of traffic. and when i looked in the rear view mirror i noticed it was smoking alot. So I slowed down and got off at the first exit i got to. When i was getting off the car was knocking really bad and would only do about 20mph. SO I was heading home very slowly. I was nealy home when it stalled. So I open the hood and noticed it was smoking like it over heated so i walked home a good some water to add to it.

Then i added it in. So then i took the car to the store parking lot a block away. there it shut off When I restarted it it went BOOM!!! and at the same time it smoked alot . Since i have my heater core removed it was getting all into the inside. So I got out and opened the hood. There was to much smoke to tell where it was coming from but it looked like some was comming from the carb and the tail pipe(more out the driver side), I also notice the VALVE GASKET on the pass. side had blown and was had started to come out on near the firewall.

What do you think went wrong??

You didn't say what kind of car you have, but it sounds like exhaust restriction to me. Catalytic converter, collapsed pipe, whatever. You may have damaged your exhaust valves from the excess heat or even warped your heads. Sounds like the excess pressure wound up in your crankcase and blew your valve cover gasket. What kind of car and motor is this?:Do No:

The reason it was knocking is because it was very hot and experiencing pre-ignition. Maybe the thermostat is installed upside down, the fan may be on backwards, but something is causing it to overheat.

Let it cool and put a vacuum guage on it. If it slowly drops to low when you speed up the engine, you have a choked exhaust.

Do you have any other symptoms?:Smarty:

It probably is, as a result of something else causing it to overheat. If it got hot enough to do the things that you described, you may have more than just a blown headgasket. You better remove both heads and have them checked. You may also have warped exhaust valves as a result of overheating.:puzzled:

I agree with what nailheadina67 has said.. Also, check your hoses, and radiator for leaks. Also, slim chance, but check for Themostat Housing corrosion. Waterpump belt still there?
What does your oil look like? Milky, like coffee?

Also, you said "" I got a engine swaped in my car and picked it up yesterday.""

Who swapped this motor in, and where did it come from? Was it new or used? I would talk to them and try to figure out what they didnt do right....
