Need your help as soon as possible guys. I picked up an 850 thermoquad and i went to put it on tonight and the throttle linkage is hitting the manifold. I drove around to every auto store open yet and nobody has a riser that will work for it. I'm wonder if i could cut the bottom piece of the throttle linkage in half that rubs on the manifold. I don't think anything hooks up to it but the instructions on this were pretty vauge and no pics. I can't find anything on the web. Anybody?

Is this carb new, you mentioned instructions, and are you putting it on a stock manifold? If it's going on a stock manifold your best bet would be a spacer. As far as cutting the linkage off, why not if you want, but it will be harder to unload down the road if you decide too.

thanks for the info. i actually found an open spacer today at one of the shops that was closed before. Now that that is done, i noticed i have slack in the throttle cable. anyone know how to tighten that up without making a new bracket?

If you have the aftermarket 850, then the throttle arm is adjustable as it bolts to the throttle and can be rotated. This should alleviate the rub, as well as provide the adjustment for the cable.

If you have a Mopar 850, you may have more serious issues than the cable adjustment.

Thanks Jon. Yeah, this was the carb i just bought from you a couple of weeks ago. I got a question for you though. After putting this on it feels like a lost horsepower and performance. I used to :3gears: but now it breaks the tires in 1st gear and just gets up to speed the rest of the way like a newer car. No more WOW factor. Any suggestions? I am going to try and find a shop around here that can check the tuning on it for me but i can't imagine it is going to increase the performace that far. I know it is hard to diagnose over email and not having put it on but could it be that this is too much carb for my engine? The choke works great, which is the main reason i was swapping out carbs from the Holley 650 i had in it before, but i was really expecting to see at least the same performance if not more. Anything off the bat you can think i could check? It almost seems like i gained hp on the high end and lost on the low end. :Do No:

If you got the carb from us, it was an 800, not an 850. But should run much better than what you are reporting.

The open spacer should help the high end at the expense of the low end. Open spacers are good for racing, not generally so good for the street. Moroso used to have a closed spacer, but I don't have one of their catalogs.

Give me a call during normal business hours. We will work you through it. In the meantime, make sure the choke is opening completely. Also, since you mentioned in a previous post that you have slack in the throttle cable, have you checked to ascertain that the throttle cable will move the carburetor throttle to the wide open position. This requires an accomplice to work the footfeed, while you observe the linkage.

I agree with Jon about performance, the throttle cable probably isn't opening the carb all the way. I had to make a new throttle cable bracket to locate the cable more to the firewall. Or you could make some sort of bracket/adapter to go on the throttle arm of the carb. By the way Jon what more serious issues are you talking about with a Mopar carb? :Do No:

Thanks Jon. Yeah i already altered the bracket and shortned my cable to accomodate the slack. at first that was my issue, i was only openeing the carb about a 1/4 of the way. now that is fixed but it just isn't grabbing in the low end. maybe it is the spacer. I guess i need to find the right spacer somewhere. I'll give you a call tomorrow Jon. thanks.

I just wanted to correct myself. What we used was an open gasket, not a spacer, although the gasket we used was about a 1/4" thick, but it was just enough to raise the throttle linkage up enough to clear the manifold. i think one of those 1" spacers might be too high and i wouldn't clear my hood. So i am going to try and find a closed gasket that will fit this TQ.
