I did a Bug Jam at the St Pete pier back on 01 - 02 then shorty after they had bugs over the Skyway. It was a pretty fun time.
Ya Briz, Bug Jams are HUGE here! They seem to hold them 2, maybe 3x a year.. Huge turnout with tons of cool stuff... I have a friend who is converting busses to HYBRID ELECTRIC Tesla type drivetrains. He is already year behind with production orders. A young retired Honeywell employee and a true visionary. Well Doug, that kinda makes sense...NO ONE really LIVES in Flint anymore, right?? I ask because some 15+ years ago, my Dad visited his childhood home off Court Street, right down the road from IIRC, the old Dort highway? AC Spark Plug plant. . . he called me from a 950,000 SQ FT of cracked, busted, weed overgrown concrete slab the BUICK plant where he was once employed, USED to stand. He was almost in tears as he asked " HOW COULD what WAS perhaps the GREATEST MOST SUCCESSFUL Automobile Manufacturing facility in the world, BECOME nothing but a slab of concrete????" I will never forget his voice, . . .He was absatively posalutely flabberghastid. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
It would be kind of boring standing on a corner waiting for someone to "glide by" in their nice car! Bob H.
UNLESS of course BobH, you are standing on Woodward avenue and 12 mile...you know, the INFAMOUS WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE...
I remember many years ago in my first GS some clown sat in my car and tried to ram my auto shifter through the gears when my key was out and in park. Takes a lot to get me mad but I gave the guy a piece of my mind. What an idiot he was.
For some reason people restrain them selves when back to the bricks. I was looking at this Buick in 2018, guy next to me said if I wanted to take it for a ride the Keys are in it. It is called the Black Pearl so fine made the local news for nearly a week. Al
I have not had any issues at shows so far, people around here seem to be pretty respectful. I did have 1 strange request 2 years ago. A guy was walking his blind elderly dad around the show, they would stop by each car and the son would tell him the color, make, model ect. When they got to my car the son came back to where I was sitting and explained about his dad and that his dad had told him he owned a 70 skylark back in the day and wondered if he could walk his dad around the car and let him run his hand over the edge of the car so he could picture the lines of the car in his mind. I said no problem. I've never seem a old man smile like that ! He must have thanked me a 100 times, and we talked about is car for a while. Was a great day . As for parking lots, I try to park away from anyone and I have a dash cam in the front and back with parking mode, so if some one does do anything I got it recorded. Doesn't stop anything, but at least I got it recorded.
Our 1985 LaSabre coupe has what I call barn doors they are huge by todays standards, if you could find a 2 door (car). I like room to open my doors and have a good 6 inches to spare. The Clio area Fire Dept show this year is the only show I have attended where they park you and use a tempplate to achive that 6 inches of Leway. I think that all shows should use a temp plate made to fit a 1960's Buick Electa 2 door, give people a bit of room. Plenty of places have asked if I could get closer and I open the huge door look and most times say NO. Al
You definitely have to watch those doors. Last year at a car show, a guy in a Corvette parked next to me and proceeded to swing his door wide open right into the quarter panel on my car! Luckily, this isn't a pristine car to begin with and I was very surprised that it didn't do any damage.
Reckless Newscaster Fired After Climbing on, Damaging Cars at Auto Show on Live TV https://www.thedrive.com/news/30562...bing-on-damaging-cars-at-auto-show-on-live-tv
We went to a local car show it was the first year outing after the four restoration. We went looking around and when we got back I notice a small dent on the door. I talked to the guy with a car behind me and said he noticed someone on a bicycle looking inside the car. I figured brake lever is what put the dent in the door. I was needless to say upset but I am not going to let ignorant people make my life unhappy for me.. Also as Brad said these guys do wonders, Paintless Dent Removal.
A few years ago, I think a lady dragged her purse along part of my hood. Fortunately, I was able to have it buffed out. I have had to "educate" people about getting too close to the car.
