I got a new external regulator for my 71 Chevy from the auto parts store. I believe it is made by Standard.

Bob.........I've beem running the 78 amp alt for well over 10 years now. It's been totally trouble free. And my ammeter has always been smooth as butter....it NEVER flickers, although the one on my automatic battery charger does. I just never paid attention to it until recently. :pp

I figured the rebuilds use a cheep regulator, the one I have in there now is from a virgin AC Delco 63 amp that was never taken apart that I had laying around.

As for the original setup with the external regulator, yes that one did flicker sometimes, and since the newer style is so reliable, that's why I switched. Sure 78 amps is overkill, but heck, I'll never be a few amps short at idle any longer now will I? :Brow:
