This car is long gone but I have to tell you this thing was a riot!!! How embarrasing it must have been to get your doors blown off by a beat up flat black slightly rusty old Skylark. :3gears: :Brow:
I agree with you on that one. Just like my old pickup, people thought it was junk with a bad cam or idle, until I blew their doors off.. 4000 lb truck blowing the doors off a mustang, thats a thrill...lol

I surprised many people with that black beast, They would pull up along side and point and laugh. Then the light would change and all they would see is a cloud of smoke and my tail lights dissapearing in the distance. That black car was a Canadian built car and so it had the one wheel 12 bolt in it 2.56 gears. It would do 100 in second and topped out around 145, I am guessing at that speed because of the crotch rockets I used to kill on the highway top end, The speedo would just fly past 120 and dissapear into the dash. 3000 was 90, man those were the good old days. What do you think of the homedone sawzall radiused rear wheel arches? It had to be done because the car had been blasted in the right quarter and I couldn't fit two wide tires under the stock wheel arches.
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!! Hopefully when I am 40, I will be finishing projects, and having some good ole fun, with beaters,lol... PS. I am 33...
You have to love a car that you don't care about the paint, If it gets dirty, greasy, spill some brake fluid on it, who cares, whip out the can of Bar-B-Q black High temp paint and have at it. We called it the stealth Buick. :bglasses: I used to run it with the hood off because of heat problems and people would laugh,.....until they heard it run, that is.
69gs400, I love it when a car is completely disregarded when it looks bad and then blows the doors off the person who sneered at it. I had a pretty sorry looking '69 GS 350 car years ago all cammed up with a close ratio muncie and a 4:10 posi. That car surprised alot of people when we left the line, the guy with the 454 El Camino was the most memorable when I beat him by a rull half a car length. Surprised my brother too when I was able to 'eek' all 4 gears with 4 people in the car. I only have a couple of not very good pics of it, I'll have to scan them over the weekend and post them. It looked really bad. :3gears: Harry
Stealth Buick?!?!? There was a cartoon strip in the sunday papers once where some guy tied mattresses with a rope to the top of his car, and announced that it was a "Stealth Buick". This was maybe the early '90s or late '80s. Does anyone have a copy of this cartoon? I would love to get a copy of it. It was just after the craze about the Stealth Bomber. -Bob Cunningham
Its just very humorous how so many people look at it, and say" nice looking buick".. Then they discard it as a Ameri-euro grandmas car.( you know the types that throw tons of lights and spoilers and fart can exhaust, so it is all looking flashy and has the sound, but nothing to back it, well when we put on cowl hoods and nice rims and flowmasters, they think its the same thing) till we start them up, and their heads snap around fast enough to almost need to call the coroner.. In the spring through the fall, alot of us older teens go and park at an abandoned lot, and show off our cars, and stand around and BS. While I was there I had this happen. This past year, I had 5-10 people walk by my car, and look in it and around it, and one actually said, " nice grandma car" and then they all laughed. Then about 15 mins later, I went over and turned on the fuel pump, and fired her up, those 5-15 people now, were RIGHT in front of the car, and seriously almost all of them jumped. I drove out of the lot slowly, and knodded to them all. Nothing said, but their faces were the best of it all. lol
I have lost track of all the kills with that nasty old beast, I'll try and think of a few. '75/'76 Malibu, built small block '70 Camaro 454 '69 Chevelle built small block,3500 stall and 4.56 gears, I knew the guy so I know what he had. Stone stock IROC Z Camaro, the idiot had his girlfriend with him at the time. numerous Vettes of several generations '57 Chev street rod, looked like a kid in daddys car with a couple buddies. '69 Wildcat built 455, 3.42 posi, buddies car. '66 Rivvy cammed, dual quad, switch pitch,3.42 posi, buddies car. multiple 5.0 Mustangs GTX unknown year '69 El Camino built small block 340 Challenger Honda Hurricane unknown year Honda Interceptor unknown year I am sure I am not remembering them all but those are the ones that stick out in my memory for various reasons.
Here's the pic of my old '69 Here is the only pic I could find of it. I have one of the inside but the print is so bad I don't think it's worth scanning. It doesn't look too bad in the pic but this car was pretty awful looking, right down to the triple tape striped down the sides and primered hood. But man did it run............. So with out further ado, here is my former 1969 GS sleeper Circa 1988.... EDIT: if you look closely you can see the ladder bars under the rear......
It might have been fast but I doubt you beat too many "crotch rockets" unless they had complete idiots ridin' them.
Check out this Dutch "Mad Max" Skylark, talking about the rough look............ This car has been upside down in a ditch, roof was completly in at the rear, payloader with a big chain, yo-yo it a bit and presto :TU: Still blows off the doors of little Golf GTI's and VTEC Honda's :3gears:
Oh ye of little faith.....What do you drive? I sold the car 12 years ago so I was not running against current generation bikes. I also wonder when the last time you ran against one was? I never went up against one from a dead stop and from a roll a big block Buick is deadly. From 20 to 120 I would'nt hesitate against any bike of the time barring stuff like GSXR 1100's. I took on a Hurricane 600 and a VFR 750 at the same time on the freeway from 70 to I think around 140, the speedo needle dissapeared at around 4000 in third, The bikes tried a couple times but I pulled on them big time every time. You could hear them downshifting and winding them out so I know the were trying.
