Hello I am new to this forum sorry if this ticks anyone off but I have to vent This pertains to Oldsmobile parts but I know the parts place does make buick parts also. I am trying to inform anyone and everyone I can. THANKS Some buick people may not understand but the Thorton hood is the Ram AIR STYLE HOOD THE HOOD ITSELF IS $1300 ALONE...

I orderd a hood from the parts place it was a factory repo W-30 style hood.
6 weeks go by and my hood FINALLY SHOWED UP.... I ordered a Thorton repo thru the parts place... Anyways I was quoted $110 in shipping for the hood so I went ahead and orderd it... Well 6 weeks later it shows up with a hefty shipping bill of $311.
So I called the parts place and they promised they would call me back "the next day" to let me know what happened (as to why the increase in the shipping bill)... So I kept calling them (after they wouldn't call me back). So one whole week goes by of them telling me they will call me the next day "I PROMISE" was the girls words, two more days go by and no call. So I called the Parts place and talked to JOE apperantly the owner... He told me there was nothing they could do about it and Thorton wouldn't give me the 200 dollar difference in the shipping bill.... I said "I didn't order this from Thorton I ordered it thru YOU, YOU quoted me 110 dollars for shipping" (which I have a quote in MY EMAIL SAYING shipping would be $110). He told me he wouldn't give me $200 back in the overcharge in shipping...

But goes on to say that if I want to they will send someone out to pickup the hood and they will give me ALL of my money back... "That is just assinine" I said "do you understand what you are saying... YOU would rather loose all the shipping cost (would total about $622 to get the hood back to them) Than to pay me the $200 and keep a customer happy???" He told me that they would not put the difference on my card but I could return the hood for a full refund... He gave me the excuse of "the price of gas went up from the time we quoted you the shipping and the time is shipped out" I said "you didn't have a problem charging my card for the hood on the day I ordered it It isn't my fault they waited 6 weeks to ship it out."

What should I do I think I am going to return the hood to THE PARTS PLACE along with my WING, RED INNER FENDERWELLS, AND HOOD HOLD DOWN KIT that I ordered too... I don't care now that I will loose out on the shipping to send the other parts back it is the principal. He would rather piss me off and not honor his quote than to give me the difference and call it good.....

I ordered about $3,500 in parts from the parts place in about a week and this is how I get treated... When I called the first time the guy said "Oh your the guy that had that REALLY BIG ORDER"

I am 21 and 200 bucks isn't something u just pick up off the street it is alot of money to me. Like I said earlier I have and email quoting me the shipping charge and I ordered it that day.... Shipping was payed upon delivery and I wasn't here when it arrived so my uncle (who was here) cut the driver a check for the $311 shipping bill....

I WILL NEVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM THE PARTS PLACE AGAIN.

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK I SHOULD DO

    THANKS

    JEFF

Geeze, the price of gas sure shot up a lot in a few weeks didn't it? :spank:

They kept saying they'll call you back just to blow you off hoping you'd forget........sounds like CARS.

If it were me, I'd call my credit card company and see if they could somehow back charge the parts place if you dispute the charges...........assuming you put the shipping charge on a credit card?

One tip about doing that.........if you are successful, change your account number.........I won a dispute with an exhaust system supplier last summer and the jerk had the gall to charge my card a second time after Mastercard credited my account. They erased the second charge, but it's the principle of the thing.

I hope you win this dispute.......you got hosed. :Dou:

Thanks for the heads-up, though I'm sorry you have been treated like that. I won't buy from them, now. I know enough to learn from others misfortune, and have had enough fun with shysters to try my luck more than absolutely necessary. Dan

get ahold of your credit card company and tell them you aren't happy with your purchase. They should be able to help you out. :TU:

Wow. Thats quite a story. I have ordered from The Parts Place on several occasions without any problems, however if you have an e-mail quoting you one price and then they jack it up later then file a grievence with your credit card. You will probably win. Like you I would be tempted to return it all just to make a statement, however you have to weigh out what the net loss would be to you. Credit card is probably the right way to handle it. Good luck

I'd call around and find out what shipping rates would be for a hood NOW .....If you're getting $300 quotes, then I'd suggest just eating the difference, you're not going to do better anywhere else.....Unless of course, you pick up the part yourself. Some vendors will allow you to pick up your parts at a swap meet they are going to.

Too bad they didn't honor their quote.....at the least they should have notified you of the difference. :spank:

It sounds to me like TPP did not charge the freight to you on your credit card though. Either the delivery service, or Thorton collected from your uncle? It's too bad you weren't there at time of delivery, to dispute the fees at that time. Your order was obviously shipped "freight collect", which usually means it's the carrier that you are paying. In our business, we frequently make common carrier shipments, and ship them freight collect, as the customer has been told they will have to pay frt on delivery. We typically provide an estimate based on weight/size of item, and knowledge of our carriers rates. But the customer isn't quoted, just estimated. He has to pay whatever the actual fee is to the carrier. In your case, it sounds like the sales person pulled a figure out of their a** instead of checking with their carrier. Not a good business practice. Especially when it is provided as a Quote to you, the customer.

I would be cautious about sending back the parts because they might charge you a restocking fee more then the $200 you are complaining about, just a thought.
