That's right. Here it is...The Kubisch Plexi-Pan for a simple and clean way to seal that Stage 2 scoop. All the credit goes to Gary Kubisch for his design. The display car is Phil Sedlon's 1970 GS455 Convertible that broke into the 11s this year. He wants to go faster so he's adding a Skylark hood with the Stage 2 scoop and a front spoiler. The Kubisch Plexi-Pan is the ticket to seal it correctly...............

Can't be sure... do the float screws hold it in place front and rear? Very nice indeed.

Wher can I get one of those plates? Are they available or do you have to fabricate your own. I have a 65 Skylark 464 with a Stage 2 hood scoop. I think that plate might work on my car. Thanks!

    Email me.
I'll get some info from you,And see if we can set you up.

    Jeff
Actually in Phil's case,It will act as the air cleaner base and will be held down by the carb stud.
In an application like my car you have to be creative and fab up a hold down,Plenty of options there.
My car did not repond to my stage2 scoop until I set it up w/ this airpan.

Thanks for sharing the photo's....looks good.

    Gary,

How thick is that glass' that you used on that ? Wouldn't mind building me one of them, it looks pretty good in there.

    Thanks................

    Hi,

I finally got time to get one here. Gary's piece is first rate. It's 1/4" clear plexiglass. From the tapering of the sides to the slight point on the front and rear of the piece. He cuts the holes with a jig that's a perfect fit for the carb.

I will be fabbing up a small metal piece that will mount on the carb stud to help hold it down in place. It will be "V" shaped and simply slip over the carb stud and held in place with a nut to apply some pressure and hold it in place. The air filter itself will probably do a pretty good job of that by itself, just want to be sure.

I did have to cut the holes for the float screws. But I was able to use a 7/8" wood boring bit. I just made sure it was sharp with a file, started my drilling on one side to make sure I had broke the surface of the plexi. Then I flipped it over to finish the hole. No chipping of the plexi and a nice clean hole.

I did have to notch the pan for the vacuum canister, but it cuts very easy with a RotoZip. He can even put in 4 holes on each side to put your spark plugs in while you're working on the engine at the track. No more laying out and around somewhere.

I would recommend this to anyone with a Stage 2 scoop. I will be cutting out the center bracing on my hood (Skylark, no my GS one) to have a smooth surface and will mount the foam on the hood instead of the plexi. This is how Gary does it and it gives a much cleaner appearance and keeps it out of the way. And I'll leave the foam off the front area and have a plug for the scoop just in case I get caught in the rain.

Thanks again, Gary. Great job.:TU: :TU: :TU:

I think my days of fooling the ricers and telling them it's only got headers and a carb are finally over.:puzzled:

    Hey Guys
Email me as to what carburetor you're using....Need the diameter of the air cleaner flange.....I know the measurement for 4150/4500 series Holley's but I just want to confirm as I go.

Interesting mine and Clark's '74 GS have a a big old air cleaner bottom, with the side cut off, with big hink of foam on top of it, similar deal. Bu I might be interested in this idea instead. RV

anyone interested in this deal can email direct so I can make a list of people and start taking orders.
I will be checking on material cost Monday and then can determine a price for those interested.
    Thanks for the interest.

    PS
The one on my car was done from 1/4'' lexan but that stuff is costly.
The few I've made local were 1/4'' plexi-glass.
When you attach the foan to the hood it really cleans up the engine bay when you pop the hood.
