I don't get it either, cut back taxes to get the gas price down. Now with releasing a billion gal. a day from reserves, this will run us out of oil then the price will really go up and get you closer to that electric car. It is all in the big plan, the new way to get money out of us.

Yea, releasing 180M barrels over 6 months is more a symbolic gesture as I understand we use about 100M barrels a day in the U.S..

Not to worry, here in Washington they're raising it.
We are going to be #1!!
And we https://www.dailywire.com/news/wash...campaign=benshapiro&fbclid=IwAR1DOK9wskEtS8_N gonna outlaw new ICE cars in 8 years!
    Yay!

In the near term, at least in my area, it seems that is likely not necessary. I'm on the PJM grid, which has substantial swings between day and night time use, with a 20GW + demand differential between the two. The majority of EV early adopters are folks that own a home with a garage, and pull it in there at night to charge, so it's ready to go in the morning. That would merely smooth out the load, rather than making a large increase in peak demand.

Sure, some folks will charge during the day, but anyone with home charging, will likely rarely charge while out and about. I owned my Bolt for a little over a year and a half, and 16k miles. In that time, I used public chargers maybe 5 or 6 times, all were while on a longer trip away from home. It would be just like if everyone had a gas pump in their garage, you'd probably not stop for fuel while out and about very often.

After spending the winter driving around Phoenix I don’t believe people care about the price of fuel, if you aren’t driving 85-90 mph you’re getting left behind on the freeways.

I keep looking to see if this thread got locked, you guys are doing great keeps your emotions in check.

Not gonna happen, unless you're willing to dive in to probability theory. Quantum stuff defies what we're accustomed to seeing. I can recommend texts.

I could've pursued it further, but I got interested in girls, cars, violin, singing, guitar and back to cars and back to violin after school.

I don't do very well with any of that stuff, especially guitar. BUT, physics is always a pursuit as is the rest. It still confuses me.

Try that if your interested in math. This will help with understanding somewat quantum physics and 4th and 5th dimensions. I found it very interesting. Also the proton expiearment ware when we observe it it looks like 1. But when we dont look at it its randomly 2.

If you start watching those links. You may sudenly realise you clicked on more related stuff and 4 hrs have gone by and your eyeballs are itching, your ass is sore, and you know when you stand up you will have to break through the pain, your mind will be scrambled yet you understand something different now.

If you EV runs out of power and dies, do you call for a bucket of volts?

As far as ev debate. Wars the ev m1 abrams. Not gonna happen. These 2030 goals of no gas cars. Pie in the sky.
Im for oil. Gas cars. Lets try to do it cleaner.

I honestly believe these engines today run as clean as they can get 'em, and thats fine by me.
I dont understand the sudden rush to have everything "go green"
Work with what we have already.
If we do that and construction slows down, people are out of work, the economy will suffer.
I was watching a documentary yesterday on You Tube about all the ships that were sunk during WW2 and all the fuel/oil and explosives that are sitting in the bottom of the ocean and are beginning or have been leaking.
Fact is, we cant stop this:rolleyes:
All were doing is employing people to research then tell us "this is bad"
Its a vicious circle, NOTHING lasts forever.
The best we can do is enjoy life, be kind, thoughtful and polite to other humans, and respect the planet we live on.
The ONLY way to a green planet is eliminate humanity, and we dont want that:eek:

The most likely scenario I see is they will try and try to legislate and regulate green. It will never be enough. Then yellowstone will blow and put more stuff in the air than the last 2000 yrs combined.

This is really a reply all comment not necessarily constrained to Jim's OP

I had not bothered to read through all of the comments, I scanned a few a shook my head. The title was about the "EV Debate" I would recommend first to appropriately provide a better descriptive title on such threads and truly take an academic approach as if this were a publication therefore employing greater discipline in keeping on topic and aligned. The title should be "Energy generation for EV versus ICEs."

To have moderation of this thread for the topic and somewhat confusing conversation started, comments should not be orthogonal, those posts should likewise be removed. I am not suggesting people have invalid orthogonal points but those comments cause chaos rather than clarity.

I believe the intent of this thread is to rightly set our understanding of energy generation (production). I believe there was an attempt to go straight to thermodynamics at the expense of not further providing a brief overview of the four fundamental forces. Yes, four forces and one specifically is called the electromagnetic force. Now logically, without citing where combustion lies with in the forces, one can now very very very topically appreciate why there is a strong sense for why electrically propelled vehicles is more appealing, because literally there is a basic force describing how a EV is propelled. Now if this conversation dove deeper into efficient energy usage to cause a force this could be discussed with in a given vehicle configuration (EV vs ICE) - this could be a separate thread appropriately titled for moderation. Next we could step outside of just the vehicle and look at the external factors that drive practicality of energy generation and distribution between these propulsion types (EV vs ICE) and further why a holistic view of EV and ICEs usage needs to be understood (Another separate thread). I would argue, at this point we could discuss chemistry through a complete "system" the EV versus all ICE types (yet another tread to keep moderation and conversation in line). The discussion would then include emissions and end of life disposal/recycling. We can discuss what practical mitigations and what technology exists to regulate undesired environmental impacts via all emission types - compounds in the ground or compounds in the air. (another thread)

    That's my two cents.

    Let the rambling continue...
