We did get the motor pulled. I didn't have time to check the numbering on the block before having to head out of town on business to see if it's the original (but heads are definitely marked '73). The motor mounts were reasonably fresh and we did find the tranny to be a '76 OC - Oldsmobile. Motor is blue all over and we did find a tag in the front driver freeze plug that said "Pioneer - void if removed". Anybody know of a "Pioneer" engine rebuilder? Thought maybe I'd give them a shout and see if there are any further clues.

A real tribute to Buick that this thing made its last voyage for us as the carb was toast, the plug wires fell off when we pulled them and most vacuum lines were broken or disconnected. Compression turned out really strong, though, except number 3 was low, but I'm thinking highest possibility for blame is a valve. It's nasty down in the intake from that filthy carb.
