Swapping in a TH350 and wondering if the speedo cable will fit the bullet and speedo gear that I have to buy for the TH350. If not is there a adapter available? Rather not have to pull my dash to change the cable
Cable attachments are the same, so as long as the length is OK, it will screw on. You are swapping in a THM350 or a 400? The speedometer gear sleeves are different between 350 and 400 transmissions.
I'm putting a 350 in place of the 400. The 350 going in doesn't have the bullet or gear, so I have to try and guess the internal drive gear in the Trans and match a speedo gear as well. Good to know the actual cable is reusable though, one less thing to buy and replace Cooler lines in the car off the 400 seem to big for the 350 as well Forgot to mention it's a Chevrolet Trans. ..... should that make a difference for the cable?
First, the Chevy transmission has a different bell housing bolt pattern than the Buick, so you will need an adapter plate to bolt up to the Buick engine. Some Chevy transmissions use the smaller sleeves and gears. The Buick uses the bigger 2" diameter sleeve. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/TH350_Speedometer_Housing.jpg You don't have to guess the drive gear, just look in the hole, rotate the output shaft and count the teeth. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/700Gear.jpg
OK, so you just have to use the right sleeve and driven gear to get the speedometer right. The sleeves differ between THM350 and 400, and Buick to Chevy.
One way ounce you have it in and no ur speedo is wrong. Using GPS start off and when one mile had gone by stop and look at ur mileometer. If it ain't 1 then ur off , if it's over then go lower teeth on gear, if lower go higher . Usually it's a red shaft gear and 38 to 41 on the cable gear, but depends on rear gear. Good info on 700 ^! None electronic of course, you can easily get a pocket full of gears at ur local wrecking yard, all fir price of admission, at wrecking yard if it fits in ur pocket it free!
