Just got my new th400 in and having problems with the shifting, but i bellieve its the shifter linkage just dont know how to adjust it.

Its full manual reverse valve body with hurst promatic 2 shifter. After i go from nuetral to 1st, i cant engage neutral again unless i put it in reverse and the back to neutral. When i shift from 1-2 or 2-3 it doest always shift immedietly, or sometimes at all and i have to try again.

Do you still have the installation instructions? One or both ends of the cable will be threaded for adjustment, usually the trans side. The detent in the shifter has to perfectly match the detent in the transmission. In other words, when the shifter is ratcheted to neutral, the detent at the side of the trans must also be exactly at neutral.

If the cable adjustment is too long or too short, you may be forcing the trans between detents which confuses the heck out of the hydraulic circuits and can shorten tranny life by bleeding off pressure and/or engaging more than one circuit at a time.
