I have a TH400 long shaft but aparently need a short shaft to swap it into my 72 GS (currently has a TH350 but I plan a 455 swap) Are there kits to convert to short shaft? Or do you need to find an original short shaft? Is this a simple job I can do myself? Or does the whole thing have to come apart? Should I just try and sell the long shaft one I have and look for a short shaft?
The trans would have to come apart, and the output shaft is one of the very last components to come out. If you have your heart set on using a particular trans for some reason, a good tranny shop could do the conversion, but it would be far simpler to start out with the correct trans to begin with.
