Has anyone used a cast-aluminum trans pan with OEM-style column shift linkage? I want to replace the vintage stamped pan in our '67 Special.
I'm aware that the cast pans can create fitment issues with the shifter bracket mounted at the pan rail, so I'm curious to know if someone has found a pan that works without modifications.

    Thanks,
    Rick

A 67 TH400 (switch pitch) uses the early "heel print" pan, to match up with the trans filter. The
trans could be converted to a 68 up filter; a holed tapped into the valve body is used by the
    filter retainer bolt.

I don't care for cast pans, which have less ground clearance. One good bump could cause a crack
and leak trans fluid; a sheet steel pan will dent but continue to seal. Bruce Roe

I'm using an aftermarket cable shifter, and the Summit Racing cast pan. I had to grind the bracket slightly. Might just be the way that it goes.

I switched to a stock capacity cast pan to try to resolve sealing issues- which it did, perfectly. The deep cast pans definitely seem to be asking for trouble on a street car.

Our '67 Special has a 1970-model TH400, with the original stamped pan. My plan is to use a cast stock-capacity pan similar to the Summit Racing one. It seems nearly all cast pans require some mods to the shifter linkage bracket.

    Thanks for the replies!

I think you have that backward Rick... a Console mounted shifter uses a cable and a pan bracket, in addition to the column shift linkage pieces, on 69 up cars.. Once the console is installed the column shifter related parts are called the "back drive" which is used to move the shift indicator, on mid 70 up cars, for Neutral Safety switch/back-up light switch operation.

Factory Column shifters use steel rods and a frame bracket. No pan bracket.

Unless you have some sort of conversion kit, that uses a cable.

In any event, your correct, nearly all cast pans will require some mods to that pan bracket that holds the cable housing.
