I picked up a NOS valve body I think was tagged Buick. Gr.4.265 # 6060289 My parts book is from '81 & does not show this number. Anyone have an earlier parts book?
Steve, Most Valve bodies for the 70-72 era started with 6260xxx. For 71-72 it was 6260288, so your number is close. I only have one casting number for a 71-72 TH350, it is 6261063. Nothing I have in B,O,P & C show this sequence for TH350s.
David, Casting number on mine is 6261085. The accumulator on it is # 6261176.My parts book shows this number superceded by 1243383, '69-76 TH350. Casting also has a dab of yellow paint on one side, likely an application code as well. My guess is they were all very similar with very subtle differences in shift points ??
David, I checked in with a local Chevy dealer this AM. He still has an older parts book for Buick A-body cars, published in '76. Gr.4.265 # 6260289 is for a '71 only TH350. This number was superceded later by 6260306. Casting number looks more like 6261065 vs. 6261085. Thanks for the input.
Valve Body ID. Steve, If you let them, GM part numbers will drive you crazy. That's why you'll never meet an old GM parts man. In my 28yrs of GM dealer parts, I've lost sleep thinking about numbers and number supersessions. So here you go, a few more to drive you closer to the edge............ Buick A-Bdy published 11/68: 1969 - Body, TH350 = 6260008 A-Body published 5/72: 1970 - 350-4 = 6260175 350-2 = 6260176 1971 - 350-4 = 6260288 350-2 = 6260310 1972 - 350-4 = 6260288 350-2 = 1241618 A-Body published 4/76: 1970 - 6260306 1971 - 1972 - 6260288 A-Body published 6/78: All TH350 1969 = 6260306 1970 = 6260306 1971 = 6260306 1972 - 350-4 = 6260306 1972 - 350-2 = 1241618 A-Body published 4/83: 1969-1972 All 350 w/TH350 = 6260306 And to push you over the edge: 1970 - L-6 w/TH350 = 6260306 In other words ALL the numbers were superceeded to 6260306 by the mid 70's. parts is parts and books are books............ ou: David
