    hey guy's

I'm a bit cofussed what i'm gonna do
    i've got a 75 century witch came with a 350/350 combo
    however i'm gonna put a 455 ( form a 73 riv ) in it.
now i don't know what gearbox is better to put behind it.
I know a th400 is better resistant to the torque that the 455 will make
but what kind of th400 can be put in without having to change driveshaft ?
and how much will i need to change to make it work ?

and if i don't go out and buy a th400 will the th350 hold up for some time ?
or will it be broken after a few hard pulls ? ( the engine is mostly stock except for a mild cam and edelbrock intake )

I asked this because i don't know what's a smart thing to do. :Dou:
I'd prefer a th400 but don't know what must be changed to make it work in my car.
I hope you guy's can help me out whit what's the best thing to do

    Greetings Lennard

If you use the th350, you shouldn't have to change anything. Driveshaft, tranny mount and driveshaft should all work. I would use the TH350 for now if the motor is stock or close to it. It should hold up ok if it's in good shape to begin with....just don't pound the heck out of it. Jim

the only thing with the th350 is that the torque conventor doesen't fit the flexplate. ( obivous it's set up for a th400 )
can i drill the holes in myself ? if i take good mesurements ?

use the 400 torque convertor, dont drill yourself.
if you get a aftermarket convertor you can get the large bolt pattern
the 350 will hold up to a 455 ,my 430 make really good power and the 350 trans behind it was built in 89 and still lays rubber on both upshifts
i have a 2200 convertor on it and i think you might like it better anyways
just adjust the detent properly and everytime you stab it it will downshift
unlike the 400 which is electrical and require more to set up

    can I use a th400 torque conventor on an th350 ?
    To bad i haven't got a th400.
I'm sorry i forgot to say that i don't have a th400. It was a bit the question if i should look for one while gathering parts
And if i've had a 400 i'd put it onder the car.

sorry for the question's but i'm kind off 'new' to american cars and this is my first resto and engine swap :pp

Maybe I'm missing something that's Buick only, but my 350 swap to a 400 in my old suburban used the original flywheel. Both convertors had the same bolt pattern. I wasn't aware of any difference until GM when to the metric stuff. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.

yes the 400 and 350 convertors are interchangeable or swapable

coil- yes buick is different and many cars with big blocks had a 13 in convertor with the big bolt pattern in early cars chevy puts 3 different patterns on their flexplates
buick only 2 on big blocks

so i can use almost any torque conventor on my car as long as it comes from a th400 ( not brand related ) ? :eek2:
that's kind off easy to find ( almost to easy )
no problems with hitting the outher housing of the th350 or anything ?

Greetings Lennard and thanx for the info :TU:

watch the year convertor as later81-up 350 could have a lockup convertor and will not swap but 81 up 400s no lockup so should be fine

use your turbo 350 it will work fine, find a flex plate with both holes drilled in them and match yours up to it and drill 3 holes, will work fine.or you can buy new flex plates with both sets of holes drilled in them.

Every 455 flexplate I have seen had both sets of holes from the factory
