Storage building owner just called. My car has leaked a substantial amount of transmission fluid since October.
I had the seal at the shifter replaced by a trans. shop last year. I was noticing a wee drip occasionally but didn't get a chance to drop the inspection plate before storage day.
I'm going over Saturday to have a look.
Any ideas on what can be the culprit?

    Thanks.

    Hi Steve,

The o-ring at the dip stick tube can be a leak suspect if not obvious that the pan itself is leaking at the seal.:beers2:

If that o-ring is the case, you can replace it and use a little silicon around it before you jam the tube back in as added insurance..

    more than likely O-ring.
Converter drains in to tranny when it sits, making leaks happen that would not normally leak while driving.

Pan gasket, filler tube seal, detent seal in that order.

Check your speedo cable seal if the leak looks like it's on the driver side.

1BadWagon i got too many parts.....

sometimes the seal for the torque converter goes bad and it will leak when it isnt running because the garder spring isnt holding tight enough on the hub anymore. once its running, the pressure of the trans fluid holds the seal tight against the hub. could be pump seal too:beer

Thanks for the replies. I'll be at the storage building Saturday morning & get the car up off the ground. Pan gasket easy fix, fill tube possibly easy fix too.
I may have to just identify the problem & be prepared to repair in the Spring. I won't be able to move the car as others are in front of me.
Currently -39C & no wind this morning, these temps. expected to last all weekend. Not sure how much I want to do in this cold.

I agree with the previous posts. However if you have sealed up all that was suggested and it leaks after driving, it could be the o-ring seal for the 2nd gear accumulator cover. Very common leak, especially if the exhaust is nearby the accumulator cover, on my Skyhawk the exhaust was only about an inch or so from the accumulator cover, took it to Buick and cost me $30 to fix. 29.50 labor, .50 o-ring.

Pan gasket it was. I'll have to change it in the Spring. Tightened bolts up about 1/8 turn on the side it was leaking from.
Filler tube seal was good, kickdown cable seal & was good. Shifter shaft & speedo seals are good. I dropped the inspection cover while there. Torque converter dry & the front pump seal was dry.
This done on a concrete garage floor @ a balmy -30 here this AM.

    Thanks again for the tips.
