Can someone give me some tips on what to look for in a used un-installed tranny? Other than fluid color/smell, when I remove the pan what can I see for wear/breakage?
Is there a re-seal kit available from someone, or do I order each seal?
Which locktite do I use on the converter and flex plate bolts and are new bolts necessary?
    TIA

You're taking a chance on a used transmission no matter what. Fluid is the best indicator. Look for heavy deposits of metal in the pan. Anything over a tablespoon is cause for concern. There's really nothing else you can see or check. If the fluid looks like metallic red paint, the trans needs a rebuild. I would think you can reuse converter bolts as long as they are the correct grade, and are in good shape. Locktite blue should be sufficient. Front and rear seals are readily available. The other seals are O rings, also readily available.
