just picked up a 200 out of an 86 monte carlo ss for $150
got the lines and tv cable and bracket also
the id tag on the torque convertor says 8653156 and then CBBF
the id tag on the tailshaft says 240-862czf1575

i know this is one of the better 200's to get
and have heard the buick D5 convertors have a big stall but what kind of stall is this convertor? is it higher than my stock th350?

now too get it all cleaned and put in can't wait

The D5 is about 1800-2200 stall

$150 for that core is a nice price.

dont know about the converter you have by the numbers Thought I suspect the Monte would have come stock with a D5

Maybe you have an aftermarket unit

If its a D5 it should have 5's stamped in it in a circumferential pattern

If youre going to pull the oil pan and do a shift kit - research the accumulator valve and 1-2 accumulator spring. It is not unusual for them to need to be upgraded to avoid a lazy 1-2 shift in our cars.

I would suggest pulling at least the pump, adding hi pressure regulator spring and larger boost valves, a hardened stator support so the splines dont strip and new pump vanes with new hardened rings.

This will address the most common failure points of these trans when swapped in out cars.

    Just some FYI

Not looking to Hijack but have a question:

Is the D5 converter the factory lock-up style originally used in the better 200 4R's? Thanks Ron

I have a Grand National 200 4R in mine and noticed the D5's on it.

OK just got my car back on the rode 2 days ago and sorting out some stuff. Don't know what the actual stall is but it feels and sounds (seat of pants) that 1800-2200 would be the neighborhood. My trans and convertor are from a 86-7 GN. Once I get to paint the underside of my hood and put it on I'll get more driving time in. Ron
