Hey All, I recently installed a set of sunpro gauges in my 71 350 -4 skylark, temp/volts/ oil pressure. After only maybe 2 days, the temp gauge no longer reads. I had no problems with the install, in fact I routed the cables and etc. through the hole in the firewall - no new holes drilled! I also installed the new temp probe where the stock sending unit was (on the passenger side). I will move the stock unit to the other port (drivers side) later to use both. Is there any way to test or anything to find out why it stopped reading temp. I checked the level at the port and it's fine. I'm also needing help on where to hook up the lights for the gauges? I don't have an ash tray light..
    Needing help, Mark

Sunpro has a positive, sender and ground connection. I would suggest verifying that all of those connections are good and you have a 12v read at the gauge. Also be sure whatever you used as a ground is good and solid. If all of that is good it's probably the gauge. My experience with senders is that when they go out they peg hot.
Lights. Grab any accessory light that comes on with the switch. I am assuming you mounted below the radio. Look for that light or the heater control lights.
    Good luck :TU:

Do you have a mechanical or electrical water temp. gauge?
I connected my lights to the INST fuse in the fuseblock.

Thanks for the reply's guys, and sorry for the delay in responding. Austingta, these are mechanical gauges and that's so confusing why it stopped working, not much to go wrong!
I did use teflon tape on the fittings in the manifold, but do I need to worry about a ground on mechanical gauges???

A mechanical gauge should work with or without power to it. 1 way to test it is to put the sender in a pan of boiling hot water and see what it reads. I need to do mine too, it stopped working after I flushed out my cooling system. I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. That should tell if the sender is ok or not. Just my thoughts and ideas.

It almost HAS to be defective. No ground is required. Luckily, they're cheap!

I also had the same problem. The mechanical temp. gauges use a gas in the tube running to the sensor. If the tube gets bent at too severe of an angle or you try moving the sensor at all once it is bolted in to the block, the gas can leak out and stop giving you a reading. That is what happened to me.
