im getting a 69 GS thats been in my family since it was new, it has been in storage for 10 years (inside). had a fresh motor when stored (400). ive had people tell me a couple way to lubricate the engine before trying to start, what is the best way? i would like to not have to rebuild this motor! and what other things should i look for to be problem areas on a car thats been stored for 10 years? thanks.

If it has been 10 years since the car ran, I would pull the plugs and pour some marvel mystery oil in every cylinder. I would also pull the distributor and crank the oil pump until you have pressure. Then you can put a wrench on the harmonic balancer bolt and turn the engine over by hand 2-3 revolutions. If all seems to be turning easily , then clean the points, drain the gas tank and replace the old gas, pour a little fuel down the carb and hit the starter.

I might take a peak in the oil pan too.. When it sits that long it can look and feel like molasses in the bottom of the pan.

Drain/refill oil/antifreeze/tranny fluid, regrease suspension, new plugs/wires/hoses/belts, everything that "The old guy" said, new battery, COMPLETELY drain fuel system (drop tank, clean out varnish/water/goo that gas has seperated into) fill with new gas, disconnect line at carb and crank engine over with a bucket under the line to catch the goo the gas turned into there, carb rebuild if possible/if there was gas in the carb, check as much wiring as possible for dust buildup, don't want a fire, check tires for dry rot/flat spots.

I wouldn't even bother to check the tires, they're way too old. Time for a new set...your life and the lives of others on the road ain't worth it.
