I bought a '74 Electra that had the headlight switch removed and a new (?) one in the box that needed installed. I installed it and all lights worked fine for about a week and a half. Now the dash, tail, and parking lights don't work. I bought a new switch but, I still need to install it. Fuses are good and connections to the switch in the car seem solid. Any thoughts? Hopefully the new switch will correct the problem. Thanks

    No lights

The tail lights on my '70 GS did not work at one time. It seemed to have been a grounding problem, because it was intermittent. I removed the rear bumper for rechroming, and made sure of good grounds to the frame when I reinstalled it. I have had no problems with tail lights not working since then. The dash lights may be a different problem.

That's another thing I'll check on when it's a little warmer. I just thought it was weird that the tail, front parking, and dash lights quit at the same time. Blinkers, brake and headlights are fine.

Check your fuses first. I don't recall off the top of my head if yours is wired like this, but many GM cars have the parking lights and dash lights on the same fuse. Quite often, if the fuse is blown, the wiring has chafed under the carpet.

Check the contact between the fuses and the contacts in the fuse block. My radio and power windows used to pop in and out intermittently and it was due to dirty fuse block contacts........haven't had a problem since I cleaned them. :bglasses:

There were no blown fuses but, I will check them for corrosion. The car sat outside for a few years. When this first happened it was in the morning. I popped the lights on and no dash lights. About 5 blocks away they came on. I had no idea at that time that there were no taillights. A day or two later they went out again and stayed off. Then I found out about the other lights, I'm betting its in the switch. I'll let you know Thursday if I get it fixed.
