Hello Just got my 455 running i have ta hydraulic lifters they are a little nosiy is that normal? Thanks
lifter noise Are they the rhodes anti pump up lifters? If so they are supposed to be clicky as I understand. If stock an eng. of that series will sometimes leak down after sitting a long time. I solved the problem in my 68 riv by putting a stage 1 oil pressure spring in the oil pump.
It has been a while since I tore an engine down, but everytime I worked with hydrolic lifters, I primed them regardless of what anybody told me. Let me know how your TA lifters end up working out....I am planning on buy a set very soon from them....
Rhoads... That ticking is normal, for them at least. Don't worry about it as long as it is running right :bglasses: .
I have the same problem with my TA lifters, they have about 2ooo miles on them, and everytime I start my engine, I have to listen to that "tick tick tick" for about 1 minute The engine has had a total rebuild, and oilpress. is 40 psi. when idling at normal operating temp.
Great oil pressure I'd say the lifters are not good. About a year ago, TA had the lifters design changed to the way the factory originally suppied. By the way, do you have a HV oil pump? o No:
They need to be disassembled and cleaned before you run them. QC for lifter manufacturers has gone downhill and the result is trash left over from the machining process gets stuck inside the lifter.
lifters Seems like some things never change or get any better. Had the same problem with my 350. Lifters rattled, Mushey lifters after cool down. Had the same problem with a GSCA cam I solved this problem by buying Comp Cams Pro Magnum Lifters. They pump up and stay that wayand not mushey. I have never had a problem with them.
