I'm planning to put the TA "shorty style" headers in my 71 Riv and upgrade the exhaust to 2,5" free flow system is it worth it? engine is 455 with a TA 112 cam and 9,2:1 comp. does anyone know if they actually fit o No: any information is welcome...
I can't speak for the boattail crowd... but the shorties very closely mimic the location of the exhaust manifolds... and YES it is worth it!!!!!!!! You'll NOTICE A DIFFERENCE! Warning: I had terrible heat-soak once I changed to the headers. Others didn't. Just an FYI. The Ford solenoid fixed my problem.
If you go full length headers there are some things you have to do to get them to fit. I haven't done it so I can't speak from experience but if memory serves it involves moving a tranny line and crossmember. If you go shorty there isn't any problems, I'd go shorty for that reason right there, just like you said you were going to.
Biggest problem you will encounter is lining up the headers with the crossmember. Either bend the headers to meet the humps, or modify the xmember. You will then need to re-route your tranny cooling lines.
I have shorties on my 72 electra I am working on. The fit is great access is good. Drivers side brake lines are a little close where they drop down from the Master cylinder you may need to tweak them. But I see no other problems putin them in your Rivi. Van
Nice topic! I've heard that the shorties will fit in a Riv' nicely. I'm thinking of doing the same... after I get some money, that is.
mine fit great except i had to put 2 washers on each bolt under the pass side motor mount to keep the headers from hitting the frame
