I have my oil pump apart and I've measured the clearance from the gears to the gasket surface of the timing cover.

    Difference is .0035

In order to get .002 clearance between the booster plate and the faces of the gears, I must use something smaller than the .008 paper (black) gasket they gave me. Is this ok??

Taking into consideration that the black gasket will compress .001-.002 when I torque everything down, will this be fine?

Using only the .008 gasket I end up with an end clearance of .0045. This is too much, but since the gasket will compress .001-.002, I will actually end up with an end clearance of ~.003 This sounds like it will be fine if I get enough crush (.0015) when I torque everything down!

Can I use just the plastic shims as opposed to being REQUIRED to use the paper gasket? I think I can get a better end clearance if I just use the shims.:Do No:

Give me a call if you can help out. I'll be in the garage playing.

I just want to thank Larry and JW for their time this afternoon. They walked me through some pretty specific questions that I was stuck on.

Even though I have some other idle issues to tend to, I wouldn't be this far without their help.

    Thanks guys!! :beer:beer:beer
