Is anybody out there running TA's new 3" exhaust for the 67-70 Riviera's? I was curious to how the fit up of these exhausts were. Also what muffler you are running, and if you can make it half way quiet but still make power. I don't want a loud raunchy exhuast (made that mistake already, glass packs behind a big block makes a lot of sound), just a powerful sounding deep mellow tone.

Any info on this exhuast would be appreciated.

Unless you're pushing a LOT of HP, I think 3" is a little overkill. Their 2.5" would probably work real well for you. And I gotta believe it fits well. Their shorties fit like a glove.

I talked with Mike at TA, and I told him the buildup for the engine I was planning on doing (Jim W's convertible motor build up), and mike had said the 3" was probably good for an extra 8 hp with the 3" exhaust and that was the way to go (just saying what he said). I personally thought the 2.5" would be plenty, but they are the ones that built and tested them, so they probably know better than I.

Yardley, are you running the 2.5" exhaust? Does any one have any comments on that exhaust?

Got the TA 2.5" pipes under my 68 Riv, but I haven't been able to drive it yet because I'm doing new paint and it's all apart. The pipes fit well, are excellent quality and the 2.5" tips poking out from under the bumper look great. I had to completely remove the mount that comes with the system that is just behind the mufflers. It would not let the system sit high enough to keep it off the ground. I ended up modifying the original mount to fit the 2.5" pipes and then the pipes fit right. I used the Flowmaster 70 series Big Block mufflers and they are about an inch thicker than the original mufflers so the mufffler ends up sitting about an inch below the frame with about 3/4"-1" clearance from the floor. The sound is typical flowmaster though and a little too loud for my Riv even though this is supposed to be their quietest muffler! There are also some resonances that are very annoying. I may try some resonators back where the original ones were or change out the mufflers for some quieter ones.

Overall the TA system is great, but they need to come up with a better front mount for it.

Unfortunately, no. When I had mine done I had no idea what I was doing, and this and the GSCA website were unknown to me or not existant. So the shop put factory size 2.25" pipes on it. And the damn things are galvanized? so they haven't even begun to rust out yet. Hate to toss a perfect sysytem but I have it on my "down the road" list.

    The shorties are really sweet!

I have the TA 3" system on my Riv it fits very nice with a little work.I am using the dynomax ultraflow mufflers,so its a bit loud.but I'm sure you could find a muffler that would work with the system and still sound the way you want.overall I think the system was worth every penny.

yardley - probably alluminized? that's what my flowmaster kit is, but the exhaust shop did a little bit of fabrication to make the head pipes hook up right (they split too wide, i guess they probably would have a fit a big block perfectly). normal steel was used, so my entire is exhaust is clean, then there's a weld and a brown section.:Dou:

So the ultraflow and the flowmasters are a bit loud with the 2.5" and 3" system. Does anyone make a high flowing muffler that is still quiet enough to seem apropriate on a big Riv?

I have Flowtech Afterburners gonig through my 2.25" pipes, from a stock 455. Inside the car, they're quite at idle, but put out a moderate growl when you hit the throttle. There is a small rpm window where they are little annoying, but I don't mind it all too much and am pretty happy with them.

i have 1 5/8's headers and an h-pipe with a 2.5 exhaust and ultraflows. it escapes me as to why people call them loud. they emit a soft rumble at idle, and only get loud when you step on it. for comparison, 2 chamber flowmasters can be heard a block away at idle, and i've got a friend with a mustang who i can hear up to 3rd or 4th gear in the suburbs when he pulls away casually (5.0 with shortys).
