Can this balancer be honed slightly to aid in installation? The problem is the with the engine in the car, I am unable to see to get the balancer initially lined up with the key. The key way on the stroker crank doesn't extend to end of the crank and I am unable to install the balancer enough to line it up exactly with the key. If I'm a little bit off, I'm concerned that I am going to damage the balancer, crank, or key and it will be impossible to replace the key with the timing cover on. This wasn't a problem with the engine on a stand, but in the car, it's impossible to see down inside a black hole. I was wondering if just the end of the balancer could be honed just enough to line the balancer up before using my balancer installer.

It should be easier from under the car to see the key way on the crank. I would mark it on the outside of the timing cover. I would do the same on the balancer. Then line up the 2 marks.

That's what I did, but the eyes aren't as good as they used to be! I just painted the end of the key red. I'll see what happens. Thanks

Guys you need to think outside the box, small kids or grandkids are the perfect tool for tight spaces and hard to see places:D and they're cheap labour, a bag of gummy worms will get you alot done plus they have no concept of time so you can use them for hours and tell them it's only a 5 min job for a WHOLE bag of candy:p:p:cool:

just went through the same problem .The new balancer was a little tighter than the original . I used a small hone and my dial calipers to check , and made it so it would slide to the key . Than used a harmonic press tool. This was with a romac balancer sold from TA.

I know romantic fit tighter than stk.......but I think they want to fit tighter than stk to absorb the vibration better.........but I'm not an engineer and don't know how tight us too tight........but my romantic seems tighter than a Chevy and to me those are tight.

I was debating about taking a thou or 2 out of the inside next time it was off

My machinist had to "trim" the bottom edge of my timing cover just a bit in order to get my Romac balancer to fit.

Same as mine. The balancer wanted to just kiss the cover on the bolt area for the pan
