I am installing a kick down switch in my GS for my 400. The inside wiring is there but no outside wiring. I have looked at the wiring schematic I see where the outside wiring should be on the harness block my question is if I had the proper connector can I stick the connector in the block and go to the trans and make work like factory? If that can be done where can I find the connector? Where I live resources are slim.
    TIA Rick

I'm in the same boat as my car is originally a 4 speed car. I found the black/white wire at the fuse box, but nothing on the outside to the transmission. I cut the black/white wire from the firewall to the trans solenoid from a donor Electra and will do exactly what you're talking about. It has to work if it's plugged into the blk/wht wire on the other side of the fuse box. I'll check around for the correct connectors. Year One or M-H Wiring(sp?)should have 'em. Especially since M-H makes the wire harness to begin with.

    Rick,
You can wire it yourself. On the gas pedal switch connection, one wire is 12 volts(from a switched source), the other wire goes to the trans. When you mash the gas, the gas pedal switch simply connects the two wires and passes 12 volts to the vertical connector at the trans. You don't need a special connector, just use a crimp on. Find which wire has 12 volts at the gas pedal, then splice into the other wire and run it to the trans. If you have two prongs on the trans, the kickdown is the vertical one, the horizontal one is for a smog switch or the stator control on a switch pitch trans. Hope that helps.

That may be the end result, but I was looking to keep it neat and organized as possible. I wanted to plug it into the same slot in the fuse box that it should be that way I don't have to cut the existing wire.

    You're right Reynold,
I didn't read Rick's post carefully enough. The connectors that go into the fuse block/bulkhead connector are available from NAPA, someone may have a part # If not, I would imagine most GM cars used the same connector. Go to the boneyard and disconnect the bulkhead connector from a similar car(comes apart with one bolt). Then you can unsolder them and reuse them.

Reynold & Larry I searched the posts and found the NAPA numbers for the connectors and purchased them. Got out my manual and found out where the kick down terminated at the bulkhead cleaned out the goop soldered on the the connector and pushed it in. I also removed the wire for the coil and replaced it with a new one that I ran for my HEI and also ran a completely new one for an electric choke. The choke one basically goes through with ends so that it can be unplugged with the bulk head fitting but on the interior I just put a short length of wire on it so that I can fuse it and plug it in to the fuse block. I put some silicone over the the new connections of the bulk head cleaned up the wiring harnes and it all looks factory. Just what I was looking for:Brow: I have the part numbers for the connectors and I can post them later today.
    Thanks Rick

Ok here are the NAPA part numbers
#725145 male ends 50 per package
#725147 female ends 50 per package
#784490 male ends 5 per package
#784491 female ends 5 per package
    #784531 male plastic housing
    #784530 female plastic housing
I soldered and crimped them and used #12 wire they are sized for #18-#14 wire . Be careful with the soldering and crimping because there isn't much room the bulk head fittings for oversized or distorted connectors. When your done if looks like a factory job.:Brow: Hope this helps!!
    Thanks Rick

Which one is the connector for the detent lead wire? Is it supposed to be male or female? I haven't pulled my fuse box out to check yet.

Reynold you need the male end, that will go into the bulk head fitting on the firewall. Just make sure that the crimps or soldering is not to large if it is it won't fit in the bulkhead fitting. Once you pull the bulkhead fitting off you will see which connector you will need. Just to make it clearer the fitting I am talking about is on the engine side. One bolt and there you have it.
