Jimmy, when the shutdown warning comes up go to start, then run, and enter -> shutdown -a <- without the arrows and hit ok, that'll stop the shutdown procedure and you should be able to get things done.

Click here for the direct link to the WinXP patch for this problem. By going directly to the patch, you by pass the whole windows update crap and save a ton of time.

    Re: Up and running.........for now.......

Brett, Symantec has a couple of utlities to remove files left behind when you are attempting to uninstall NAV. Here's a couple links to get you started, which one you use depends on what you have installed.

    Uninstall NAV utility

    SYM Clean utility

    How's everyone's computers doing?

After 3 days of removing the worm, reformatting and all that other happy horses&*t, things finally seem to be back on track.

Thankfully, I have a good friend who's very computer savvy, and he tipped me off to a few shortcuts as well as talked me through some other things. Thank God he's patient because this laptop almost ended up outside on Route 138, via my front window!! The only problem I seem to have now is this thing freezing from time to time but, considering what was happening before, I'll take it!

    Dwayne,

Thanks for the Norton links. I wish you had posted those earlier because I was having A LOT of trouble installing my NAV after reformatting my hard drive.....THE FIRST TIME!! :Dou: :Dou:

If anything, I guess I've learned that it would be wise to check for updates from time to time. In fact, I think I ignored a thread in the Bench forum last month that mentioned something about this whole damn worm thing. That WON'T happen again!!! :Comp::Comp:

    tryed it

James, I tried the shutdown-a and it will not work. Alan suggested that I try it in all caps or leave a space behind the word shutdown. I may try that later(before Sat).

    Thanks for the help.

    Jimmy,

My fault, I should have been more specific. Yes, there is a space between shutdown and -a, and typing it in lower case is fine.

My ex called with the same problem and that command worked for her and others to give them time to patch things up.

    Good luck.
