Awhile back I saw a post about the System 1 oil filter. I was wanting to get one for my 455 and I need the part numbar. Can anyone help me out? Thanks, Tony:Comp:
Go to Jegs.com and look at oil filters. I don't know your application, but I only have room for the short one on my GS. Have fun.
Tony, Jegs part # 888-312361, Short reusable filter, 888-512561, Tall reusable filter. I use the short one on my 455, the 350 has enough room for the tall filter. Both filters fit all GM V-8's, they have replaceable thread inserts to fit alot of different makes of cars.
Thanks for the info guys!:TU: I currently am using a K&N oil filter, but would like to try the System 1 filter so I can check inside of it to see if I have a problem if one were to occur. One more question. Did this filter change your oil pressure at all? Thanks, Tony Rossini 81 Olds Cutlass / 455 Buick Powered 11.72 et :3gears:
My car had (has) a System 1 when I bought it. Some questions: -What's the right way to clean one? -Are you supposed to just take the end off, or remove the whole thing for cleaning? Seems like it would be best to clean it all... -I noticed a check ball on the end. Does this keep the filter primed with oil at all times? -How much trash do you guys typically find between oil changes? Thanks!
part #s I just tried these # and they don't come up. Might try adding BP to the end. The 464 short block that I bought back in March has one on it.
I leave the filter housing on, unscrew the cap, remove everything inside, and wash it in soap and water. I then dry it using a hair dryer, or let it dry in the sun. I simply wipe the housing out with a clean lint-free rag. That check ball on the end may be the bypass, I not sure. The filter has no drainback valve as delivered from System1. I called them shortly after I bought mine, and inqired about it. They said it wasn't needed, and would add some restriction to the filter, but they would send me one anyway. It is basically a rubber ring that installs at the base of the housing (inside), and helps keep oil in the filter at shutdown. I installed it, and noticed no difference whatsoever. I took it back out and have been running without it for years. On every Buick I have ever owned, it always takes 2-4 seconds to get oil pressure on a cold start. I don't hear any noises at all, and I'm not worried. I find next to nothing in my filter at oil changes. Hope that helps.
