My '60 LeSabre has a generator that has went bad and I want to replace it with a alternator. Does someone sell a kit for this or something?

I would assume all you would need is a new alternator bracket for the motor from a later model ('63-'66). Then you could get a newer style alternator with a built in regulator. There was a thread here about how to wire that but I don't know where it is.

Your car has a warning light, so I don't know how to wire it so that works........ mine has a guage so I just ran a jumper from the lug on back (with the fat red wire) to one of the pins on the side of the alternator (pin 2?) and since doing that upgrade a long time ago I haven't had any charging problems. I left the voltage regulator on the firewall just for appearance.:bglasses:

I don't want to give you any wrong information here, but as far as I know........a self exciting alternator just has the jumper already installed in it from the factory. I never priced them, but if I am correct why pay more for the same exact thing if all you need to do is make a 3" long jumper wire?

Again, I don't know how you could make your warning light work, but those are useless anyway. If someone has better information, please jump in and explain......I am curious as well. All I know is that it worked for me.:bglasses:

it's a 10 dollar difference (the 1 wire one is cheaper)
