I have 3.64 gears and i was wondering if i can just install 2.93 s without doing anything or are there 2 carriers in the 8.2 rearends ?

There are 4 different ratio carriers used in the '68-70 BUICK 8.2 10 bolt
rearend. This ring & pinion & carrier design is NOT the same as '64-67 BOP 8.2.
To install 2.93's, you will need the correct ratio carrier.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    BUICK 8.2 10 bolt carriers, 1968-1970
    -high ratio carrier: 2.56
    -"mid-high" ratio carrier: 2.73 & 2.93
    -mid ratio carrier: 3.23 & 3.42
    -low ratio carrier: 3.64, 3.91, 4.30, & 4.78

Thank you. i will have to take the inspection cover off as it might be the correct carrier with a spacer bill

Is there a way to tell one carrier from another from the outside, other that checking the gear ratio??
