Has anyone tried a fair / flatout comparison of the two converter types to get accurate 60 ft , ET and MPH recordings with streetable converters?

i researched this, a good race converter will hook up just a tad bit better , we are talking about a .01 difference,
the switch pitch will give you more mph due to it complelty locking up, if i was only going to race the car with very little street use, i would just buy a good 9-10'' converter, but if you are going to do both the swithpitch is the way to go, but your talking about $400-$500 extra cost. just my 2 cents Kelly

I agree with Kelly, the SP is not perfect for a pure race machine, the dedicated high stall is cleaner. The SP converter is the ultimate choice for street-strip though!

Quick correction there, the Switchpitch will not lock the converter completely like 200R4 lockup. SP allows the engine to rev into the powerband for launch in high stall, then settles back into a low stall like a normal converter for better, but not complete lockup.

The switch pitch converter is heavier and bigger than a fixed stall converter. For a race car, or mostly strip car, a good 10" converter is the way to go. But for the street, it's SP hands down, IMHO.

There's gotta be a way to make a SP & lockup converter. That would be cool.:TU: ...but prolly expensive.:(

There is a company that makes a lockup conversion for the TH400. Now, THAT is better than a switch-pitch. And, holds enough HP for a pretty hot race motor.

More costly than a switch-pitch conversion, though.

Like Clint and Larry said it is the ultimate for street strip application. if it is a strip only car then go with a race only stall. Also the switch pitch does lock up when it goes into low stall.

    Kelly,

A switch-pitch does not "lock up" in a low-stall position, in the same sense as a true lockup convertor. The lower stall speed does increase the efficiency, but not as much as a true lockup.

If a low-stall position has a stall of 1400, think of a true "lockup" as having 0 RPM stall speed (and therefore even more efficient of a coupling than the switch-pitch).
