Replacing the fluid is a good idea. But an original trans that old has rubber seals which age and could fail any time. The conservative thing would be pull it apart, replace the soft parts, reuse clutches & hard parts if they look good. All my transmissions are from the 60s; some of the clutch piston rubber seals I removed were so hard, they broke when bent. Bruce Roe
