Looks like it could be a reverse light switch for a stick shift, but I've only every seen one GM ever, it could be an aftermarket part though too!
You may be right . I will look at our 442. It may be the switch that mounts on the reverse tab to activate the back up lights. Thanks.
It is an idle solenoid. It mounts on or near the carb. When power is applied, it holds the throttle at the correct warm idle position. (Not fast idle, like when the engine is cold.) When power is removed (you turn the key off) the solenoid drops down and the throttle closes to a much smaller position. This prevents the engine from "running on" after you turn the key off.
I is not for a 70 and I do not think it is post 70 as they have a vacuum port and this device has a pushbuttom switch. Care to guess the year of application?
