Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

I have a '68 Cutlass with a rear sway bar. Will it fit our '65 Skylark? I know the axles are different widths, but not certain where the difference is.

I would guess no. 68 was a completely different car

Do you know someone with a parts book?

Also a 68 with rear bar would have had boxed lower control arms. I don’t believe your 65 would. You would need those too

I don't see why not. 64-72 A body chassis was very similar if not the same. The lower rear control arms are the same, it has nothing to do with the width of the rear. I bet it bolts right on.

Yup, it will. I recently put a 1" aftermarket rear bar on my `65 Skylark and then put the original 7/8" bar on my `71 El Camino. I've been swapping them around on cars for years with no issues. The later rear housings are wider, yes, but on the ends. It doesn't effect the mounting, which is why you can stick pretty much any `64-`72 rearend into any `64-`72 A-Body.

That's what I was wondering. I knew there was a length difference, just not sure where the difference was.
Thank You, Guys for your replies.

You can also install short lengths of steel pipe between the holes in the control arms to keep them from crushing when you tighten the bolts. I did this with my '72 Cutlass and it worked fine for about 10 years until the car was stolen. They never found it.

Although many have swapped them into earlier cars, myself included, the rear boxed arms and sway bar didn't officially show up until `70.

Rear sway bars were used on the 65 Chevelle z16 cars and olds 65 442 cars ! Way before others fallowed in 67! Sure makes them handle so much better on the road!
