This is very easy to do. will Take less then a half hour to complete. Take the lower steering column cover and AC duct work off. take out the two bolts holding the column and let it drop down. at the ignition switch (on top the lower column snip & store or (remove the pin at the connector). There is only 1 dark green 16 gauge wire. This will solve the peg problem.
Izzy you will have to get a new rally gauge or have yours repaired. This will solve the problem at start up but not a faulty gauge.

NOOOooooooo... not the gauge !!!! The rest of the gauges work except for the temp gauge, so I think I'll survive for now without the temp gauge working properly. I'll definitely take the dark green wire out.

I've attached the pic for the steering column. As you can see from the diagram, that the DK. GREEN wire is on the TURN SIGNAL connector as well as the IGNITION SWITCH connector. I'm guessing the ignition switch connector is the one. Which one should I snip? Are you sure it's gonna work on my car, cause you know the wiring in my car better than I do, Russell...

Never mind I answered my own question. It's the one on the ignition switch connector. :Dou:

What I would do is snip it about a inch back and store. I did it on mine and didn't even have to take down the column. Problem solved....:TU:

Just finished this change. Dropped the AC duct & the column. Removed the wire from the ignition connector, left the spade terminal on the wire. Put a plastic connector cover on it to isolate it.
Start-finish 30 minutes. Includes banging my head on the 8-track about every 7.5 minutes.

    Cheers

I don't know if you have the correct oil pressure sending unit, the one for the light is different from the gauge. The right one for the gauge is Echlin # OP6650 available at NAPA, it is an 80 psi sending unit.
