I saw this car and had thoughts of buying it for my father until I saw the price. Am I out of line in thinking this car is priced $10k too high? It's almost the same as his car minus less power brakes, the blue interior, and this one is a lot nicer than his. It weirds me out that it appears they haven't changed the oil filter? The stored inside really seems questionable to me too. The paint shouldn't be that rusty if it was totally inside in California I wouldn't think. I see rust coming through in both the front and rear wheel wells. Am I totally off base here? On edit, I see in the video it has a new oil filter now. Are those red line tires really $1200 or is he figuring new wheels too? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-Buick-...ash=item3d43911177:g:m3oAAOSwt~RZdqC-&vxp=mtr
I am no expert on any Buick much less a 68 but I will say its a convertible big block in a good color combo that runs and appears mostly original. They may be a little high on price but I don't think they are $10K over priced. My guess is the car is a $12-$14k car. I am sure some members on here can give you a better idea on value.
Before I committed money to this car I would want it checked for rust. I may be wrong but the rust around the wheel wells may be the start of a bigger problem. Fixing rust CORRECTLY is EXPENSIVE. The interior does look nice & engine bay about what I would expect.
I'm right there with you. The comment about it being near the sea shore is what tells me there could be hidden issues and you can see them under the moldings. Granted, they may not be severe as the car appears pretty solid. But for that kind of money I wouldn't be planning to take the car apart to restore it. I really wonder if someone hasn't replaced all the interior in it. It sure looks really clean for setting for 37 years compared to the chrome, and paint.
That appears to be condensation rust from sitting under a cover. Only reason it rusts on the top of the fender like that. Nothing I see there indicates it was a northern car living is road salt conditons. Exact same car as mine, same color even, but I have a white bench interior. JW
U must attend the owner's location and check this car very carefully. And take a magnet with u that u can check for rust & bondo. Being near the sea shore (can u say sea salt mist) makes me very wary .
Values are all over the place on these things.. Although there are a few things that make me scratch my chin.. 10K would be fair.. 12K.. ehhhh...
looks like there is significant rust hiding behind those rear wheel opening moldings and some peeking out behind the rear wheel opening in that passenger rear quarter shot
It appears S.W. U.S. sunburn. I wonder what the top is like. Its a non AC car, hell its a heater delete(d) as well... ws
It was a 'lead' here about two weeks ago and high bid was about $13k. Somewhere in the middle may be the number. At face value I really like the car, it's a great color combo and has buckets. I agree though, a close inspection is smart. (I pay attention to stepchild convertibles, and a member here had a beautiful, rare, dark gray over white '68 with the 3 speed manual, and think he got low 20s for his. It presented a lot better, so the blue car seems a little high based upon that.) Patrick
