Is there a diagram anywhere that shows the fuel line schematics? I just want to make sure I'm replacing every bit of the rubber for these lines. I'm tracking the rubber parts where the metal lines protrude from the whole in the frame just inside the lower control arm on the driver's side and also the 6inch pieces around the top of the fuel tank area. Are the lines all metal as the run along the frame?

I haven't dropped the tank yet because it's full and heavy as hell. I'm still working on how to drain it. I have to leave this week for work but will revisit this project when I return. Good news is, I've purchased a Holley 850cfm ultra double pumper from summit with mechanical secondaries. Pretty cool that it comes with electric choke as well. I'm really excited to get this dialed in and see how it changes the way this motor hits when I stab the throttle. I hear mechanical secondaries is like night and day compared to the vacuum secondaries I'm used to with this Rochester. Larry, can you describe your cars manners when switching from qjet to your Holley? I bet it's night and day!

As far as track goes, there is about 2 tenths and 2 MPH difference between my Q-jet and my Holley (AED 1000). The Q-jet betters the gas mileage by a lot. The Holley seems to open up all at once, as opposed to more throttle throw on the primary side of the Q-jet. That is why I like the Q-jet for the street. There is plenty of performance on the street with just the primaries of the Q-jet, don't even really need the secondaries, but I live in NYC. The Holley will probably be relatively fat everywhere, so it should run great. With all the trouble you have been having with your Q-jet, you will probably like the Holley a lot.

I installed the Holley 850 ultra double pumper today. Heard the car run for about 15 seconds before I sprung a leak at the fuel lines. I'm using this spectre adjustable rig from AutoZone. I think I'll order the Holley specific piece. Larry, what throttle cable/bracket are you using? My throttle cable is too long and I need to get a shorter one or figure out how to make this one work.

I use a bracket like this.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Holley-4150...ash=item1ebd359c55:g:fNwAAOSw4GVYQ6Uh&vxp=mtr

It comes with several attachments. One will accept the stock throttle cable. You can adjust that attachment for WOT. It also has an integral return spring, also adjustable for tension. It bolts to the front and rear carburetor studs, so it is very secure.

Years ago, I bought the bracket from AED. It was double the price. Their part number is 6600. It's a nicer piece, but the Ebay one will do the same thing.

So with this throttle cable bracket, you kept your original cable that you used for your qjet and just attached this bracket? Seems like a lot of pieces. I hope it comes with directions!

Yes, if you look at your throttle cable, right where it goes through the stock cable bracket, you see that it is square with 2 tabs. If you compress the tabs, you can pull the cable free of the bracket. The bracket I linked has an attachment that has that same square opening. You simply put your cable into the attachment, then assemble it to the bracket. The bracket has slots, which the attachment slides in. You have someone floor the gas pedal, then slide the attachment until the carburetor is wide open, then tighten the attachment to the bracket. The return springs also have a sliding attachment.

Maybe this will help. Here is a picture of a friends car. Same type of bracket, but the cable is an aftermarket type. The bracket I linked for you will have an attachment for your stock GM throttle cable.

A picture is worth a 1000 words Larry! Thanks man. Also, do you put thread tape around your fuel line connections or is this unit just defective? Mine are seeping as it runs.

I never do even IF it's rated for gas. Put some oil on the threads and seat and gently retighten it.

Good to know. I'll try it and report back!

I'm not sure what type of fuel line connections you are using. Is it the steel line inverted flare connection. The AN connections seal up so much easier.

I'm using this adjustable spectre piece. Leaks everywhere. I'm going to return it to AutoZone and find something better

There is no need for tape on the threads of an inverted flare fitting, only pipe threads.

I don't know what the Spectre piece is.

It was a braided hose with adjustable ends. I bought it from AutoZone. I've since purchased a steel line from another auto parts store and it works better. The accelerator cable bracket will be here today and I should be all set.

Got everything in running order and road tested the car. THANKS LARRY andd others for the guidance! NO LEAKS!! My qjet was either that busted or this carb is just that awesome. Either way, I'm super pleased with the performance from this double pumper. Power comes in hard and instantly. I suppose that is from the mechanical secondaries. I do have some flat spots throughout the power band though. For instance, from a stop-floor it, the car takes off then bogs a second before pinning me to the seat. Also at light throttle from a stop there is a sputter and it shows up intermittently at cruise. I'm thinking a fatter pump shot on the primaries, but do you have to change them both? I read the Holley directions about accelerator pump tuning and saw there were 2 different cam mounting locations. Is movimg from one spot to the other all there is to it? If need be, ill post a thread in the holley section for guidance.
