I just purchased a 1972 SunCoupe and I'm wondering if the carpet is the correct color ?

The car is Fire Red (Code 75)
Black Vinyl Top with Sunroof (Code B)
    Black Interior (Code TR 138)
    Notchback Bench Seat (Code A65)

I would've thought the carpet should be Black but its RED ? ? ?

Can anyone tell me how to verify for sure what color it would have came with ? ?

Thanks in advance for any info.

That's not original. It should be black. The carpet should match the rest of the interior, unless you have a white interior. Then the carpet would be black.

Looks like you have a pretty nice car there. I'd be replacing that carpet ASAP. :pp

OK...I've seen it all now. Had no idea they did this. Honestly don't know why you'd want to:eek2: You'll probably need a build sheet or Sloan Documentation to find out for sure if it came this way, but it certainly would appear correct.:TU:

You know...the more I look at it, it's really starting to grow on me:grin:

When we went to purchase the car I noticed the Red Carpeting and just figured somebody replaced the Black Carpeting at one time.

But, the more I inspect the carpet and research it I'm finding out it may actually be original ?!?!

I'm not sure it looks as good as Black would but if its original then I may keep it that way.

Weird car to say the least !

    Todd,
If your carpet is original there will be a thick paper tag sewn into the binding. If you pop off the sill plate (usually driver side) and turn the front carpet over, where it overlaps the rear piece, you should see it. It will list the color as well as the date of manufacture.

I can scan the specific '72 Sun Coupe Option info if necessary, but here's what the official Buick Clarification statement said:
    1972 "Sun Coupe"
    Product Content
-Specific Colored Carpet - Bright gold and bright red - will be part of the "Sun Coupe" option with specific interior trim and exterior color combinations as shown on attached color compatibility chart. The carpet quality is the same as that used on all the 'A' line when carpets are specified.
The red carpet is definitely correct per above and the chart that I have but can't scan eligibly, but I will get it eventually.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm starting to think it came with the Red Rug from the factory.

    Strange cars, but neat.
