My good buddy Ed's 2001 Suburban's A/C stopped working. Turns out it has rear a/c so one of the lines to the rear is leaking. The line is $459 and has to be special ordered. Both he and I were wondering if there is a fitting that will go in place of the line as a blockoff? Anyone go through this before? He doesnt need the seperate rear a/c system, he doesnt care. Front is the only thing he needs. I know this was common on the older body styles but this is the suburban body style that ran up until 2006. Thanks:TU:

I'm going through the same thing with my '99 Denali. The shop quoted me $1800 to replace the lines and rear evaporator, or $500 to just cap off the rear system and use only the front.

I can see where the fitting is leaking, right behind the rear passenger wheel where it goes through the floor. I would imagine the evap is just inside, behind the panel. Cant these fittings be cut and reflared? Why change the whole line, when just the fitting is leaking? Good old GM!

have any of you guys checked out Aeroquip and/or your local hydraulic supply house? some of these companies can make not only custom hydraulic lines on the spot, some can make ac lines on the spot or by ordering the correct fittings and assembling up a line in house. they also have compression fittings made for hydraulic systems you may beable to use one of those for fixing the leak. Not sure if they work with aluminum though.

I own an A/C shop and had these block off fittings made in quantities.
$39.95 OR $49.95 Depending on the year. Made for the GM suv's only.

If there is a line junction, unbolt it, cut the rear lines off, then have the aluminum crimped and welded shut. Bolt the block back together and you're all set - just no rear A/C. Did that to the wife's minivan and no problem.

There is a site called www streetrodguys com and the have pre made block kits for just about any vehicle and they are very reasonably priced. I got a block kit for my tahoe and it worked perfectly and they shipped it the same day. Their site is awsome
