I'm seeing all kinds of SUV's with those stupid snorkels, most of which are probably fake. Where can I get one for the GN?
Does somebody actually sell fake snorkles? I guess if there is money to be made, somebody will make fake ones.
Almost as dumb as the light bars and tow mirrors. Hilarious to think that only a snorkel is needed to drive underwater.. good luck with all the modules.
I dunno... they might be a good place for those “kid in the corner” dolls you see at some car shows. Just have the lower body and feet sticking out.
I ordered 2 for my GS, should fit perfectly in the scoops/inlets in the hood, get em way up there for that ram effect
It doesn't matter whether they are fake or real. Nobody is going to intentionally get their driver in water deep enough to need a snorkel.
Around here where I live in Alabama there are a lot of hardcore off-roaders so I am used to seeing snorkels on Jeeps, Land Rovers, Toyota Trucks, etc. But recently I have noticed snorkels on newer, completely stock SUV's that have never been off the road (unless they pulled it in the front yard to wash it!). Now I know why - fake snorkels...
Sadly enough, many of the ads on e-bay and amazon call them "Ram Air Snorkels", "Ram Snorkels", etc., and talk about hp gains from taking cold air in through these little tiny tubes.
They're popular in Australia, as it they sit in clean air above the dust, and for places like Cape York, where fording rivers is necessary. That said I suspect that most 4x4s here never see any of the above.
Most don't, even with a snorkel, the computers would get soaked long before the water reaches the intake for the engine.
I know on Jeep Wranglers all the electronics are waterproof and have waterproof connectors. I know driving fast through water can sometimes splash the water directly into an air intake and it doesn't take much water to hydrolock an engine. Snorkels can prevent this and driving slower through the water will prevent it too. People who have Jeeps or other vehicles for serious off-roading drive through deep water sometimes. Much deeper than you would drive your daily driver through. I know we did back when I had a Jeep.
Thank you so much for this information. I really needed one for my mini van. Now I won't be ashamed of what I drive when I am around an SUV.
