I'm trying to install a brake backing plate and need to remove the C-clips on the axle , my problem is when I removed the pinion bolt it was broken . I got the threaded out with a piece on it and got the shaft to move enough to get some from the shaft . Is there another piece that goes into the carrier because the pinion shaft has spun with the spider gears , I ordered the bolt retractor just in case its another piece .

There is a pilot on the front of the bolt in front of the threads which is what holds the spider shaft in place. If the shaft has spun the pilot must be sheered-off so now it's a matter of getting the spider shaft out. The main problem is that since it spun and sheered the pin, there's going to be shards of metal between the shaft and the carrier housing which may be gulled. So, you need to wiggle the shaft and pull at the same time to try to force the shaft out. That rear must have been run low on oil at some point for that to happen.

i've seen this alot.the spider gear is seized to the shaft.you'll need to heat or split the gear to free up the shaft.it won't be pretty but you might be able to save the carrier.caution;;if you used brake spray or cleaner , watch it when useing heat..ask me how i no..lol.good luck.

IS this a limited slip posi or just a standard open diff non posi?
If it is NON POSI get a drift (same size or a little undersize diameter of the cross shaft) and a BIG HAMMER (4 lbs.) and pound the pinion cross shaft throw enough to spin it around and cut the shaft off that sticks out of the case and do it again and again till the shaft clears the c-clip button end -

Just nothing you can really do with the mess your in - there will be collateral damage so try and make it minimal. you will need to disassemble the whole rear anyway and clean it all out.
