I/We are thinking about investing in the Heli-coil repair kit (quite costly) to repair the striped threads of a QJ main body. With this repair Stage 1 carbs and/or correct date coded carbs can be saved. The kit is quite costly and would just like to get a feel as to who needs this repair.

    Anyone?

    Rob,
Are new bodies still available since Edelbrock and others are selling newer/same/similar carbs? I know several stores sell self tapping fuel filter inlets but this would not appear "correct" on a nice car. I talked to my local carb builder and says they can restamp the carb to be original and then redye the casing to make it look like new. Have you heard of the same thing?

Edelbrock is no longer selling QJs. Parts will start to become scarce. Yes, a larger size filter housing is available but only for the QJ which uses an oring between the housing and the main body. I have not seen any replacement type housings for the smaller filter housings. I'm thinking this repair would be good for a matching number carb. I supposed you could restamp a body if had one available and replating is very simple, we have an excellent source locally.
