I was out with my GS last night and noticed that when I used the switch to turn on my bright lights, it didn't really do anything. The indicator in the gauges came on, but the lights weren't any brighter. When I got home, I looked at the lights and only the two outer light will come on, whether it's with the high or low beams. The inner lights don't light up at all. Could this be the wrong headlights installed, or a problem with the harness?

I just wonder because I couldn't imagine that headlight system has 4 lights, and all 4 would be both high and low beams. Should I switch to only low beams on the outer light positions, could that trigger the inner lights to come on, or are they just there for looks? :)

My buddy has a 68 Pontiac that does the exact same thing, neither of the inner lights come on, but at least his outer lights are bright when the dimmer is switched.

Sounds like a bad dimmer switch.

Have you tested either high beam light bulb to verify they actually work? You can also check for voltage at the plug- in to the bulb. If it is not there when you have selected "HI" with the foot switch, check for voltage to the switch itself. If it is there, the switch has failed. If not... you gotta go back through your wiring.....

The common point here is the ground. Using a voltmeter, check both sides of the connector to the high beams when they are selected. If both sides have voltage to ground, the ground is the issue. Ray

It may also be the headlight bulbs themselves. The outside bulbs are dual filament and the inside bulbs are single filament. If your bulbs are not newish, just replace them first. They are cheap.
