I have to grind down some welds. Normally, I just use a stone disk on my hand-grinder. Is it better to use an 80 grit flap-disk instead? If so, why?

Are you talking about grinding welds on sheetmetal ? If so I really like te flap discs . They do a much smoother finish than a grinding wheel plus quicker if your welds are not humped up high or real rough , to me they do not generate as much heat and cause warpage as a rock .

Flap discs are for smoothing out welds. The stones are more for removing the welds. I had to smooth the welds on a motorcycle frame for a guy before I painted the frame. It looked awesome. -Josh
