Read JW's comments about rods in post #4 of this thread, https://v8buick.com/index.php?threads/your-new-diamond-pistons.181425/ That thread was written when the 470 was a relatively new stroker option. We now have an Autotec piston option, and drop in Molnar rods. A much better choice if you are building an aluminum headed monster. You can also build a 482 stroker. Generally, the stock rods are good to up to 500 HP, and 5700 RPM. Having said that, I am sure you'll get some varied opinions.
Stock rods are actually pretty good units. Get them mil spec shot peened and resized, maybe polish the beams. I wouldn't be scared to turn them to 6k, did it all the time with mine. Maybe more with lightweight pistons.
I occasionally spin mine to 6,100-6,200 on stock rods and accept I am flirting with disaster. They have ARP bolts.
Sounds like I'm good. Mine were resized and had ARP bolts put in. Won't be near 500hp (yet) and probably won't be going above 5500. Just wanted to get the gospel from the group, should be a pretty much bulletproof build.
I've ran 12s..11s...and 10s on stock rods...in 4200 to 3800lb cars....and seen 6200 to 7k more times than i could ever remember...can't afford to run 9s ha
