Hello all. I have a 73 Regal with a 455, totally stock. It has all the smog stuff on it. I want to take all the smog stuff off. It has A/C and the little A/C idle booster, which I would like to keep. My question is; if I remove all the smog stuff, is there any advantage to changing to a non-smog intake and plugging the holes above the intake ports? I have a spare performer and a spare non-smog cast iron intake. I would rather not change anything, but if there will be a noticable difference in power or smoothness, I will. I think I have some spare gaskets about as well.
    Help a lazy man out.
    What should I do?
    Thank you.

I say either put the Performer on ebay and put the non-smogger iron on,
    OR
Install the Performer. It may or may not be a 'performance advantage', but it'll sure knock several lbs off the front of the car!:Brow: :TU:

Thanx Jeff. After I remove the external smog stuff, how will the smog intake & heads effect performance & smoothness?
    Thanx.

You'd be better off to keep the "smog" stuff.

EGR is an excellent cure for part-throttle ping, an air pump costs almost no horsepower. PCV increases engine life.

You aren't losing any performance because of this stuff. It's "primitive" enough to be easy to work on.

  5. Remember that PCV does more than save the owls. Pulls out potentially explosive crank case "blow-by" gases.

    hello

OK, maybe I will just keep all that stuff on. The car is damn slow. The q-jet needs attention and I have an HEI just waiting for me to install. Maybe that will un-pig-ify the car. Any other good suggestions for getting a stocker to perform?
Also, where is the best place to attach the big HEI power wire?
    Thanx all.

i m in the same situation as you, running a stock 76 455 in my 67 gs. all i have done is sent the dist to dave ray to be converted to electronic and recurved, and located a 74 q-jet which i modded as per doug roe's q-jet book. the biggest changes are had in changing jets, rods, power piston springs, and getting the timing to advance to 36 degrees or so by 2400 rpm.

I did a search and the smog intake appearently weighs 50-60 pounds. I think I will yank it. Good luck with the 67.
