Great looking car! I absolutely love it. Please keep posting pics and text. Any hint on what kind of build up the Buick engine will have? This is exactly what I would love to do, if I had the money and expertise. John.:gp:
I have a plan but some of it will depend on funding. Portwork will be done by Greg Gessler. Pump Gas Factory Manifolds Stage 1 Heads QJ 2.5" Exhaust System Cam will be fairly mild due to running Factory Manifolds Nothing to fancy since we're sticking with the Stock Appearing theme, which is another reason why I paid so much attention to the weight of the car. My goal is to run 10's so every little bit will help.
Rear Brackets were 2 Pounds for the Pair Front Brackets were 4.5 Pounds for the Pair. They look factory after smoothing out the welds and powder coating them.
Todd, What do the factory brackets weigh? Do you make and sell these? If so, how much? Thank you. Tom Jenkins
The front Brackets were 12.5 pounds for the pair. I don't recall what the rear brackets weigh. Somewhere around 8 or 9 pounds probably. I do not sell the Aluminum Brackets, they were fabbed up by a friend of mine.
Here is a pic or 2 of the T code 73 GS built for PS? Maybe slow FAST , SA ? Whatever they call it now. So many choices. Thanks John Csordas, Thanks Greg Gessler, Thanks Scotties Performance (PG) Goin to ATCO Sunday buick vs Ford with a lame posi. I will be running MT"s for a baseline tho:beers2: P.S. My car weighs over 4000 lbs! Big Block Buick Boat!! BBBB!!!!
That's coolest, sneakiest GS I've ever seen!! Thats fantasic! Looks like a heap of work has been done but, its all worth it. What kind of motor would propel that into the 10s???? All the best cars are state side:rant:
Send out a reminder a week or so before the Musclecar Shootouts, like to drag our stuff up there for a race or two.......... Car looks great, love the color..............:TU:
I actually have alot more build up pictures I'd like to post but I don't want to let to many secrets out of the bag just yet. My fabricator is one of my best friends and between the two of us we come up with some pretty neat ways to shed weight. (Without it being visible) Most guys wouldn't get this carried away with a "street car" but I have a feeling it will be worth it when it's done and showing it's colors on the drag strip! What kind of motor you ask ? Well that ones easy!! A Stage 1 455!! :bla: (With a little help from a few friends of course) Thanks for the comments!
455 yeah right! More like 462 or something:TU: This reminds me of that Green 70 Nova that was in one of the hot rod mags a while ago. I think that was twin turbo...quite a sleeper! A very nice toy indeed.
Sounds like a plan!! Now if I could just sell a bunch of Diecast Cars I'd be all set! (Or win the lottery)
Again, compliments on your car Todd. It's very impressive that you have gotten such a stock looking car down to almost 3000 lbs. I love green cars for that secretive sleeper look myself. I think your GSX is pretty cool even with a chevy in it.
Thank you Scott, when I started dreaming up this project the main focus was to see how light we could make the car and still have it stock appearing. I knew ahead of time we'd be limited on Horsepower due to the fact we are using factory manifolds so in order to make the car as quick as I'm hoping for it had to be light! I hope to have the car on a 4 corner scale in the next week or two. I'll post the results then. Thanks for the compliments. As for our GSX, I like to think of the LS2 as a GM Corporate Motor. (As opposed to an actual Chevy Mill)
Same here! As I've said before, Its only got the bore (sometimes) + bore centers the same as a sbc. the rest is mixed an matched from every other gm sb thrown in there - Including the buick. (tal ports, skirted block, valve angle, etc) I like your LSx GSX!
I posted a 2nd page of photos today highlighting some of the smaller details of the build up. For anyone interested in this project you can follow it on my website > Stock Appearing 1970 GS Drag Car I was hoping to have it finished this year but it's just not gonna happen. If the economy cooperates I may have it running this spring. If not, it will either sit some more or worst case scenario it may go up For Sale. It's so close to being done! I just hope the economy gets better soon. Thanks for looking.
Todd, The fabrication and expertise put into your chassis and build makes my car look like a '53 Plymouth. You have one heck of a chassis guy. Get him something nice for Christmas this year. Looks great. Keep up the great work. Jim
Thanks Jim! I'm fortunate to have a fabricator like Kurt in my area. We haven't taken any shortcuts to this point. If I can swing a motor similar to yours I should be in business.
